Manager Ange Postecoglou

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

I wish the conversation were more about what our future and our needs going forward look like rather than endless focus on the league vs cup form of this past season.

Ange *deserves* and *has earned* the right to continue as manager with the EL triumph, arguments to the contrary are ridiculous, IMO. It would be heartless and cruel to sack him.

But deserve's got nothing to do with it. If other options give us better prospects for success going forward then we'd would be stupid not to take them. You HAVE to be heartless and cruel in this game.
I just hope we have some deals for players lined up for the day the window opens as whoever the manager is next season, they are going to need a bigger and better squad.

If you don’t want to return him , doesn’t that mean you want to keep him? :ange-arms:

Any way I’m done with this thread for a bit , it’s not a hill I want to die on , I just wish people could be critical of the manager and his league form whilst also recognising that him winning us the EL is a massive achievement!
As I have said numerous times , whatever levy decides to do is fine by me , I agree our league form has been horrendous and that should be a sackable offence on its own , but that should have happened months ago, but then if it did do we still win the EL?
Leaving it till now is just typical Levy, still at least it’s better than sacking him right before a final I guess!
Ange should always have a special place in Spurs history but st the same time we have to acknowledge he has been awful in the league. Would be smart to thank him for his work but also find someone new to lead the team

I genuinely do not understand how anyone can listen to this buffoon speak, and not see through his bullshit. I'm not even being unfair to him. He's completely chatting shit, spinning everything in such a way that it looks like it was all part of the plan, he's in control, nothing to see here, finishing 17th and winning a trophy is fine, it's what we all wanted. Loses are unacceptable but there's good reason for it all. Next season will be better just trust me.

He's a gaslighting prick. I am sick of hearing him lie and lie and make excuses for his failings. He just stands there after another league defeat and says the same shit every week.

I'll be gutted if he isn't sacked imminently.

Too many good young players with one more year experience to ever have to worry about relegation. Unfortunately, if Spurs finish 8th next season there will be people saying we should sign Postecoglou to an extension because he improved our league standing by 9 places.
I agree that some good young players got a man’s season under their belts and winning a cup can do their confidence a huge boost, but they will have that with whoever replaces Ange too. The players aren’t bad, his tactics and management is. You could make a very strong case that keeping him around is bad for their development

Woolich have already made a signing. £51m for Zubimendi a Spanish international . We still haven't sorted out our manager. By the time we sort things out we might be able to get a 38 year old somebody on a free transfer. This club is the same every year. Piss awful.

Well, we're Daniel Levy's club and we don't and won't, and will continue to operate in the same manner whether Antonio Conte, Bill Nicholson or Jesus Christ is the manager.

A lot of people in this thread are treating appropriately ambitious transfer market investment as if that's the manager's job when it has been comprehensively proven that no force on earth can ever make Daniel Levy spend as much of our resources on the squad as every single other professional football club on Planet Earth.

It sucks. We should protest at the stadium for every game.

But, we also need to PLAY the game, and a manager offering to push for silverware and play entertaining football within the shackles Levy places on the club is Ange Postecoglou.

*Does* Frank or Iraola or whomever offer that? Are we sure?

What are our *actual* options?

Don Fabio is a true genius at dealmaking in the player market, but his history with managers is truly wretched and I do not think he should be trusted with this sort of input. Horses for courses.

That is a very reasonable position. I am not particularly Ange in, although I am not going to go into some kind of tailspin and start taking hard drugs if he stays. I have been doing this long enough to expect the unexpected and roll with it.

My reasoning for wanting Ange gone is simple. I do not enjoy watching Spurs play football under him.

For all the attacking intent and big words, it isn't fun to watch knowing that there's at least 80% chance that you are going to lose because the football is either so gung ho, or lately all hands on deck in defense and praying for the best. Football is about balance to me and this team has none because the manager is quite open about not valuing it. And this is reflected in the league results which is the bred and butter for 99% of PL coaches.

I applaud Ange for managing to break the trophy drought and he will always have a special place in our history for it. But that's also why I feel like he should walk/be let go now. Go out on a high note and ride off into the sunset instead of damn near inevitably getting canned next season when the league form keeps being abysmal.

We are a premier league club. We have been in relegation form for the majority of his tenure. He loses in our league more than he wins. If you lose more than you win, you are a loser. Maybe in Scotland he was a winner, playing men against boys at Celtic, but in the PL a winner he ain't.

You’re 100 % right of course ; but positive energy / confidence are often rare commodities in life ( and vital ones for being successful in a sporting context) .

I would rationalise my change in opinion by 1) the fact that for now , at least , we seem to have a both of those things and 2) the hope that AP and everyone involved with the Club are well aware of his previous (profound ) failings ; and will do absolutely everything to try to address them .

I will , as I have, also said , equally understand if it turns out that we and AP have reached the end of out rainbow * ( so to say ) .

* a rainbow that appeared after near on 18 months of almost unrelenting cold rain tbf ; but a rainbow nevertheless.

i actually think some people are annoyed he won the EL with us as it doesn’t suit the losers narrative , I’ve said many times in the past I wanted him gone , but the time to sack him was months ago (IMO) but maybe if we done that we don’t win the EL.
It’s a hard decision for Levy to make but no doubt whatever ends up being the wrong decision is the one we make.
I don’t think that’s what’s at play here at all.

What concerns most fans that are Ange out, is that a lot of posters seem to have allowed the trophy win to cloud their judgement to the point that the league form seems irrelevant.

I was ecstatic about getting the trophy monkey off our back, but it doesn’t stop me thinking retaining Ange will be an absolute car crash next season and then we’ll be scrabbling around mid-season for a replacement.

Spurs as a football club were losers before this season for the last 17 years - we won nothing. Zero - we lost every time a huge pivotal game came along that could define us as winners and go down in history.

Last week that changed - we are now winners for the first time in 17 years - 41 in Europe - our name in the history books. Poch's isn't, Ange's is. Next to the very best of managers we ever had like it or not.

You want to diminish it, that is fine, you do you - but it's weird behaviour
It’s a fine achievement, but I still don’t think he’s the right man to lead us into next season.

It’s fine saying he’s a winner, but what do you envisage being any different with regards to the league?

I think this has been overlooked. Obviously it was wonderful winning a week ago but for the last 18 months it has been pretty shit on the whole.

Ive said multiple times i think, if we can find someone better, he should go.

But I'm already sick of hearing these assholes that call themselves spurs fans diminish our achievement this season.

Pal, it's the Spurs equivalent of the Stockholm Syndrome. Or the lad that was bullied, used to get beat up and spat on, thought he'd never get laid and now he's pulled a total uggo but she says she loves him and gives him some every night...so he thinks she's Margot friggin Robbie and acts like he's peak Schwarzenegger, giving it the big un. Perennial losers feeling like winners for once...and losing their sanity as a result.

So pathetic, yet so predictable.
