West Ham have won 3 trophies in the last 50 years. Even under the long drought under Enic we've managed to win 3 trophies. There's no comparison between the two clubs, and it's odd that you should try and make one.

Although interestingly they sacked their last manager to win a trophy (a European one funnily enough) shortly afterwards, and are still languishing in the bottom half of the table. .

The game is about glory. That means winning stuff, not being perpetual also rans, which is the best we can hope for in the league.

What if I offered you a European trophy next season, but we'd also get relegated. How many on here would take it?

If I you offered it to me I'd bite your fucking hand off.
The comparison was in the expectations of the fans. I expect us to be a top club in our league and to be working toward winning the league. Others are happy just not getting relegated and consider winning a second rate trophy to be an epic season even if we were relegated. Parading around a trophy in the championship would be a disaster not a triumph. That is Spammy “we are just us, we aren’t as big as those other clubs, we can’t expect anything more” mentality. Though I can see why Ange has become a patron for those types

I thought the CL winners were the Champions of Europe.
The reason (imho) that we finished 17th but won the EL is that most of the EL qualifiers were championship level at best. We're an EPL team as are Utd so I wasn’t the least bit surprised to see 2 PL teams in the final. It's far and away the strongest league in the world.
Still, love having the cup though. Unfortunately (still imho) under Ange, we wouldn't stand a chance in the CL and we'd still get a bottom half finish to the season which would be unacceptable. No European football for 26/27. We should ALWAYS be in a European competition, even the Conference would be acceptable but also challenging for the PL.
Good luck to him wherever he goes but he's really lost in the PL. (imho)
Brexit means we are the true champions of Europe

Gaffer, where to start.
Firstly, thank you for bringing me to this wonderful club that I now call my home. Your instant belief in me to not only sign me but make me the clubs vice captain & part of the leadership group from the get go is something I’ll always be thankful for. Secondly for the Europa league campaign that started in our stadium on gameweek one and finished perfectly with that special night in Bilbao. You led us to victory and we’re European champions and in this clubs history books because of you and your winning mentality. Lastly and most importantly is how you are as a man and a person. Your unwavering self belief and strong mindset is infectious and a massive reason in why you were the man to end this clubs 17 year drought for a trophy. A family man with great morales & I have honestly learnt so much from you. More than you will probably ever know. All the very best.
Madders 🤍

Oh man, I don’t know who to believe on this, the players like Maddison who worked with Ange on a daily basis and all clearly respect him highly and credit him for the trophy. Or a bunch of melts on a message board who have been so horribly Levy’d that their highest ambition is aiming to finish 4th in the Premier League again.

Hmmmm, tough one!

:porrohands:

Or maybe, just maybe...with a proper clued-up manager we'd have won it in style whilst also climbing up the PL table.

I refer you to my previous answer

Yes there is. I have in my possession a certain ancient relic which grants me the gift of 100% hindsight across the many possibilities of the known multiverse.

In this multiverse there were approximately 1, 287, 384 trillion possibilities for how this Tottenham Hotspur season would play out and in not a single one of these possibilities did Tottenham win the Europa League after sacking Ange Postecoglou in season.

And, trust me, a lot of weird shit went down in these possibilities. There's even one multiverse where you, Milesy and an unknown person in a large chicken costume engage in consensual tantric sex on the halfway line of the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium before being sacrificed to great God Klaathu in an attempt to win the God's favour before a match against Chelsea (didn't work - we still lost 1-3 😢)

Also the multiverses revealed to me that we've had a lot of clued up managers with better teams fail in Europe so I can guarantee that you are wrong and warn you that if you keep on being wrong the great God Klaathu will have their revenge

Mate these players have been dying on their arse all season and be losing a shit tonne of matches and have been hung out to dry week in week out, a new voice is probably what they need, fresh ideas etc...

It's a world Cup year as well, most of these players will be playing up for themselves, no matter who is in charge.

Nuno was very different, he was a placeholder and an afterthought by the club so no one respected him anyway, way different from any manager coming in whether it be Frank or anyone else.

Let’s hope so

The amount of messages I’ve received from people completely dumbfounded that he’s been sacked… I’m convinced most people have absolutely no idea what’s going on. It shouldn’t need to be explained why he was sacked.

Most neutrals I know are very surprised.

In fact they're more surprised when I tell them it was always the most likely outcome.🤷‍♂️

ALL our 3 creative midfielders were injured! (And none muscular injuries so you can’t blame Angeball unlike Udogie and VdV’s injuries).

Ange showed pragmatism with no creative mids, turned the game into a gritty affair, and pulled out the 1-0 win. What more did you want?
I took the EL final as an example, but we have had loads of similar games. I have seen nothing that has indicated that we were improving.

I do like Thomas Frank and respect what he's achieved, and I'm not surprised at all he's Levy's pick. We're a B-list club doing B-list things when it comes to pretty much everything, incl manager and player recruitment. Shouldn't be the case, especially after winning the EL and qualifying for the CL, but Levy gonna Levy. He's never ever gonna break his shitty mould and push on like the 9th richest club in the world should. His whole strategy is to try & strike gold on the cheap, like he did with Poch and failed spectacularly with the Blob (despite that fluke trophy).

That's the spirit

Momentum lmao, we lost 4-1 to Brighton at home in our final competitive game.
Using that Brighton game as a measure of anything is so utterly absurd - anyone who was there at the ground knew it never mattered :roflmao:

We were pretty good 1st half. Certainly the better side - then the hangovers and complete lack of anything to play for kicked in and we all just started celebrating Bilbao again.

It was the 1st Brighton game where the wheels fell off the league season but anyone claiming that final game was indicative of anything weren't in Bilbao and weren't at the ground that day

It was literally the exact same type of game we had played all season and the same type of result against any halfway organised team with technical quality.

We were shite in Bilbao .. that myth needs to end, it was two shite teams playing truly dreadful football which included totally missing out all the basics of the sport.

Really?
<one quick google later>
So they did, my bad. Just seems like they've been stinking out the joint since the '90s then.

Jesus Christ, 2 trophies in 25 years. What a damning indictment on Levy and co.

Still, I'm sure that will change with the likes of Thomas "I never win trophies in any of my seasons" Frank to look forward to.
Tbf it feels like they've been here since the death of christ

Pretty moved by the players massages to Ange. Not the generic "all the best gaffer" fare.

Probably won't mean much to people without a grasp of intangibles like team spirit and loyalties.
As usual the loudest voices will call the shots. The majority of fans seem a bit unsettled.
