Transfers The Summer Transfer Thread 2025

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

Why do people keep mentioning Kyle Walker Peters? He’s so bang average at best! Why don’t we sign Sessegnon back too! Sign a player because he’s club trained even though he’s not good is bonkers. The same people who mention this moan about how our squad is shit when we have injuries and have to play these types.
He’s CT on a free transfer with a wage of less than 20K per week - Why wouldn’t Levy be interested?!? You think Levy is going to pay to sign quality as our 4th/5th choice fullback?!? 🤣

Levy OUT!

Mbuemo is quality, has a little bit of Salah in his efficiency and keeps improving. But seems we are just being used by Brentford to squeeze a higher fee from Utd, who no doubt can offer higher wages. We will pick up someone from what's left when the higher wage paying clubs have chosen.

7 PL goals. He was dreadful and ineffective.

Would take 8M and it also frees up 10M in wages so that’s 18M total

The only criteria is goals across all competitions in matches he was chosen to play in. And he played a lot of minutes. Its not up to you to pick and choose one set of data suiting your agenda.

Son scored and created assists in most of competitions Spurs played in, including EL, which if you might recall we won and gives us a platform to build from. If he had not played those other matches he could well have been able to play more and score in PL.

One fundamental reason why spurs struggled with this season (24/25) was playing 60 games in the season rather than the 40 odd in the previous season - with a consequent need to play both weekend and midweek. That's why all players but one could only manage to play LESS than 40 matches in 24/25 as the frequency of playing took it out of them.

Son played a decent part in 24/25, if he stays at Spurs next season I think he will largely only be able to play once a week to generate goals and assists. If we get a decent offer (and your suggestion of 8m is a long way below his worth) then it - and as players have agency makes sense for all for him to move on to play in a less intense league than Spurs play in, allowing Spurs to find a decent forward to replace him and get the 24 or so goal involvements which Son got in 24/25 which FEW players do as you ought to be aware of..

But if we only get offers of 8m, he's likely to stay.

Why do all our signings have to be good value? Our cost base is exceptionally low so spend some fucking money

Abroad is a risk - the PL is so physical that half the promising value players won’t have an impact. Seen how shit the Europa teams were vs an awful Utd and Spurs

We should be dipping into all three markets of young Champ/foreign teenagers, proven PL talent and punts from abroad. Balance

I'm really glad you don't want good value - my house could be yours for only £5m. Well worth it for a discerning buyer who avoids the plebian idea of value for money

His contract is up next Summer, I guess we want him to start making trouble ... Spurs or nobody, I am not going to sign a new contract so I will walk on a free ... the usual routine.
Brentford have an option for an additional year so he’s effectively signed until summer 2027.

So Brentford could try keeping him another year but the smart move is probably to sell this summer so as you say - next summer, they don’t face the pressure of Mbeumo running down his contract - Something to consider for those who don’t want to sell Romero this summer …

Brentford announcement from 2022 when Mbeumo signed his deal at 45K a week.

I would much rather Eze than Mbuemo. However I read somewhere we have a cash flow crunch this year ie. staged payments on players we bought previously that are due this summer eg Porro, Madders, etc. without the balance of staged payments due to be received this summer from previous players sold eg. Kane, PEH, etc.

If that is true then Eze is a problem with 60m due immediately regardless of our headroom in PSR. The alternative is to finance the Eze purchase price with short term debt - not attractive.

Spurs debt whilst big is currently at a very low interest rate on the stadium build. Think of it being like the interest rate on your mortgage. The debt to finance Eze will be like credit card debt in comparison.

Just what I read - don’t downvote the messenger. Not sure if the cash flow crunch is true or not.

Past payments are not a particular problem, providing that we pay them off and buy players with staged payments this summer. That way we might well afford to buy players worth say £200m on 5 year contracts this summer as that means we only play £40m this year.

Pay £68m this year for one player, and its more of a struggle to buy other players. And that is true for virtually every club.

FYI 95%+ of all transfers are done on staged payments - and that suits all clubs for reasons of cash flow and allows all clubs to comfortably afford multiple players every year.

Also worth knowing that banks do not like funding player purchases - too much danger of a player becoming injured and potential total loss of of value.

Doesn’t always work in football though does it. Is Rice worth £100m, is Wirtz worth £120m, probably not, perhaps 20-30% above what you might expect to pay. It’s overpaying but overpaying to fix what a manager sees as a key weakness. Value for money is good but not when it comes at the expense of team evolution. Looking for value above all else is how we have ended up going through Solomon, Danjuma and Werner for the LW and waste cash.

Look at our squad, perhaps more depth than I have ever seen in a Spurs team (when all fit) but lacking in key quality. Fixing that may mean overpaying for 2-3 positions but that could end up being the difference between getting CL qualification next season or winning an FA cup. Everyone laughed when Liverpool paid £90m or so for VVD, seen as massive overpay but has proven to be worth it.

Football London now suggesting we may go for a cheaper alternative to Mbueno in Bakayoko.
I can see it now…. Levy “we tried to get Mbueno but he wouldn’t come, but we got this dud for only 17 mil so we saved 53 mil that we ca put toward our new hotel”

What Brentford have forced us into offering £70million. How is Brentford using us?

I listened to a podcast on the old Atleti owner Jesús Gil over the weekend (his son is currently the club CEO). And that man was the definition of a slimy, corrupt football big wig. And may have been one of the first sportswashers.

He only got involved with Atleti because he managed to accidentally kill 58 people (and injure about a 100 more) with a hastily built restaurant extension at his holiday resort.

Like, his wiki is an absolutely wild read.
Absolute rotten cunt of the highest order he was. Truly despicable individual who deserved nothing but pain. Should've gone to jail for ten lifetimes for all the vile shit he pulled.

The post I relied to wanted to overpay for any position he wanted to fill.

Overpaying a bit to get 2-3 positions filled if you get quality players who for the system is not a problem. Get 3 Ndombele's in and its a huge problem for next few years.

Ndombele was just poor scouting combined with changing the managers to ones who have no need for that type of player even if he didn’t get lazy. Our scouting and general decision making needs to be far better and I am a little more hopeful with Paratici/Lange/Vanai structure we will be better placed when we do spend big to make better choices. We can’t live in the shadow of the Hitchen era, that’s gone thankfully.

The journalist who hosted the pod I listened to did a lot of research on him and it felt so bizarre how things always kept escalating. So many times that I thought "surely this is were he goes to prison/faces the consequences" but nope.
