Interesting to see the knock on effect that this signing plus the news that Frank likes Phillips has on Gray. We know Frank wanted Gray at Brentford, it would seem he doesn’t think is a CB either so will he turn Gray into a RB or a DM?

I’m not convinced Gray will ever have the speed for RB

You can make any point you like mate but you replied to me making the point that Levynomics won’t alllow for us to replace Romero with a similar quality player if we sell him.

And you haven’t even attempted to engage in that point. Most likely because you can’t.

And in the meantime we’ve signed a 20 year old from Japan in Romero’s position with everyone trying to gas it up saying he’s “in the Romero mould” as if he’s going to be anywhere near Romeros level in the next 3 years.

Levynomics will though because Romero replaced a player - see - Levynomics sometimes works, sometimes doesnt -

So if you're talking about money - we spent a shit load on Sanchez did we not - Levynomics had nothing to do with how he turned out as a player.

Levynomics bought in Porro, Udogie, VDV, and Romero - all better than previous players in their respective positions. So to just say 'Levynomics' its boring, tired and not in the least bit accurate

But these young players Vuskovic and Takai have been playing at a fairly high level and have both played for their national teams. They are not like a young academy kid that needs toughening up in lower leagues.

Nah, these guys are not coming from a high level. That doesn’t mean they aren’t necessarily ready to contribute to the first team but let’s not get carried away.

I’m glad to see us signing exciting young talent but most of them will be not be ready to step up like Dele or Bergvall. Most will be like Gray and need serious time and coaching to adjust.

We just did, and Gray did very well. Certainly wasn’t the reason we got beaten so often.

Gray at CB absolutely was one of the reasons we got beaten so often. He played with character but didn’t have a proper handle on the basics of defending which is to be expected. There’s a reason Ange stopped playing him there the instant he had an alternative.

You say Gray....he was one of our best players last season. Ange stopped playing him because, he had no set position. For all the good he did in terms of being a utility player, he wasnt given a chance to nail down a position. That is not a negative on his ability to cope.
If anything, Gray is absolute opposite of such thinking - he coped well in all positions.

As for as Takai - he comes as a best young player from J league - a league which is 23rd in world ranking but still higher in ranking than Sweden or Croatia. More than K league, J league infact has given lot more talents to Europe over the years. Ay transition going to be difficult. but for best talents they can cope better than most. All they need is right environment

Bale, Modric, Walker, Kane, Berbatov..,

When we sell elite level players, how do we get on in terms of replacing them with similar level players in this model?

I’ve never said we haven’t signed good players, that’s what you keep bleating on about. I’m talking about what happens to our football team when those players we’ve signed develop into the elite level and we sell them.

If we were signing a Romero replacement, this is the guy I’d have gone for. Probably the only CB I’ve seen with the ball playing ability

His injuries are a worry (plus, he's rather slow)

If we are basing this summer on the template of last summer (we follow a disciplined model whether we like it or not)

Out
Son
Richy
Biss

In
Eze (Solanke type money)
Dibling (Gray type money)
CM (Odobert type money)
Takai (Bergvall type money)
Cirkin (5-10m)

Bale, Modric, Walker, Kane, Berbatov..,

We sign players in their ilk like 99.9% of transfers that are done..... hoping that we have done the scouting and work required to know these players can come in and replace them with as little drop off as possible

As you love Liverpool as an example

Mane >>> Diaz
Firmino >>>>> Nunez
Fabinho >>>> anyone they bought in MF

You talk about us in a silo like we dont act like almost every club on the planet.

That's a pretty decent window tbf, but we need a first-team ready CM to play at number 6. I'm not sure another Odobert level signing is good enough.

You could also question our right wing if our options are Kulu, Johnson and Dibling.

So if those were Liverpool’s replacements for outgoing elite players,

Diaz - 50m?
Nunez - 90m?
MacAllister or Gravenberch - 30/40m
Szoboslai- 70m

Would you agree that all of them were signed for total transfer costs exceeding what they sold the outgoing player for?

Who were our versions to replace Bale, Modric, Walker, Berbatov, Kane?

Were they signed for total transfer costs over the amount we sold the outgoing players for?

No I would not.

Diaz not even close.

For me I’m thinking Frank wants to play back 3 and at most sell Romero.

RCB: Danso, Takai
CCB: Dragusin, Vuskovic
LCB: VdV, Davies

Plus Gray also

Dragusin will be out a while too. Davies can be safely not played as well.

I think Frank will play lop sided fullbacks like he did for a lot of last season. Porro/Spence high up the pitch on one side and a more defensive player on the left VDV/Davies or a more defensive Udogie

Looks like its only going to one 1 of Eze, Mbeumo, Semanyo. Always a pipedream with us to expect 2.

Think Eze is the best player of all the names linked but its another number 10, left sided player where we're stacked. Leaves us short on the right so can see a move for Dibling or putting Odobert there.

Other than a No 6 i reckon that will be it unless we sell Richarlison, Romero or Davies. I expect Bissouma and Son will leave. Dont think that would be anywhere near enough personally.
