Transfers The Summer Transfer Thread 2025

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

United have offered him ridiculous wages that nobody else will match so he only wants to go there. United don't want to pay Brentford over 60m because they've already agreed to give Mbeumo 12m a year in wages. Spurs are open to paying a bigger transfer fee but will not match United's wages.

I'd imagine United will eventually pay the full fee. They usually do. I can't see us breaking our wage structure and making Mbeumo our highest paid player! Especially when he's currently only on 45k a week at Brentford. Its a bizzare payrise that United have offered him. They blew everyone else out of the park and that is why he only wants to go there.

Only scenario where I could see him end up at Spurs, is if United now go back on their personal terms and try to bring down his wages just so they can justify paying the higher transfer fee. Then I could see Mbeumo wanting to go somewhere else.

So if those were Liverpool’s replacements for outgoing elite players,

Diaz - 50m?
Nunez - 90m?
MacAllister or Gravenberch - 30/40m
Szoboslai- 70m

Would you agree that all of them were signed for total transfer costs exceeding what they sold the outgoing player for?

Who were our versions to replace Bale, Modric, Walker, Berbatov, Kane?

Were they signed for total transfer costs over the amount we sold the outgoing players for?

Also, cost doesnt matter, mate - output does.

Would you rather pay more just to pay more?

Talking about Diaz's and Nunez's total transfer costs as if it matters - neither have matched their predecessors' output.

That's the ONLY thing that matters..... Sanchez cost more than Toby did he not? Ndombele more than Dembele?

Looks like its only going to one 1 of Eze, Mbeumo, Semanyo. Always a pipedream with us to expect 2.

Think Eze is the best player of all the names linked but its another number 10, left sided player where we're stacked. Leaves us short on the right so can see a move for Dibling or putting Odobert there.

Other than a No 6 i reckon that will be it unless we sell Richarlison, Romero or Davies. I expect Bissouma and Son will leave. Dont think that would be anywhere near enough personally.
After Eze, I would rather spend more on the 6 than the RW if you gave me the option. There are some good cheaper RWs that we could pick up that could cook. We need the 6 to come in and be the guy if we’re gonna function as a team IMO.

"I want to win the Prem and the CL"

I think we just need to pick a lane and be a bit more consistent with our arguments.

Bale you'd have to pick one of the 7. Certainly Eriksen. Modric was effectively Mousa Dembele the next day.
Walker was mostly in a mood when he left because Trippier was getting some of his game time.
Berbatov was replaced with Crouch in the January.
Kane's replacement is Solanke.

Same argument can be made for a whole host of clubs, though, when picking generational talents. Certainly in Bale and Modric we're taking - comfortably - two of the top 5 players in their positions this century.
To compare, you'd ask who Real Madrid have replaced them with. The answer really is that you can't replace Modric - but Dembele was also one of our best central midfielders so it didn't work out too badly.

You don't really magically replace the likes of Bale or Kane like-for-like, because they were unique players not playing a defined position

I am getting seriously worried that we are overstretching ourselves with our strong desire for CL and PL success. This latest irresponsible spend on a Japanese centre half is 5 million that could have gone to upgrade the shower curtain rings in the fabulous 4 towers project .

Wasting money on buying players when we are a trophy winning machine already is going too far . We need constraint and frugality right now. We all know in the year 2105 this conservative approach will be rewarded when Man City and Chelsea are both docked 2 points for the season , suspended for 5 years .

I have had enough of our spend spend spend approach

Levy out and ENIC out .

Who needs the newspapers or contractual detail.

Not 300 grand a week though. That's just nonsense.
Close to 250k a week I believe. He's getting his wages bumped up by around 200k. Hence why he only wants to go there and why everyone else backed off as its bad business signing a player for 60-70m and then paying them around 12m a year in wages. You only do that for world class players, not decent premier league level players who still need to make the next step.

Its typical United. They wonder then why they keep ending up with these Sancho situations of players on crazy wages who they can't sell.
