They didn't pay the release clause. They took months to sign him because they didn't want to activate it - in spain it requires it to be paid in full and they couldn't afford to, so they've ended up paying more than the clause so that Sociedad will accept the fee in instalments.

You must have read that back and spoke out loud "I must be as fick as pigsh!t".....bad enough bigging up the Rapists Rovers as it is but try applying some logic to your assertion afore posting because to argue Woolwich have been the best side in the last 3 years but won nothing is an absolute contradiction in terms.
Firstly for no other reason than in 2022 we thumped them 3-0, which was quite a double whammy as it dumped them out of a CL and help put us there instead.
Secondly, whilst I hold my hand up their trajectory has been upwards compared to a decline by us the biggest criticism voiced by all our detractors during the period when we were challenging on a number of fronts was it counts for nothing unless you win something.
Now, I'm not one of those who suggests we are champions of Europe, that's bollocks but we did win something and that is more than they have done over the period you mention.

A cursory google of “when were Woolwich first linked to Zubimendi” gives a huge number of news stories and within every one, it’s written that they were trying to sign him last summer but couldn’t afford to. And their interest was the reason why the player didn’t sign for Liverpool back then.If it didn't take months, why have they only just signed him in July
