When a release clause is put in the contract, the player and agent know as they request it. Agent when clubs enquire would then let the buying club know the clause
Its baffling the transfer has been delayed. We should just crack on with the medical

The issue with tap up is Forest would have to prove with emails or such that we have directly tapped the player.

Most transfers from reading articles in the Athletic and such are taps up, all teams do this. They speak to the agency that speaks to the player, if the player is receptive the club then formally speak to the other club to asking permission to speak to the player and get the details of his transfer. All club generally allow players to speak to other clubs as if you deny every club in the league will stop you from speaking to their players.

What the owner is basically saying is we did what Forest do for all their transfers which is technically a grey area but everyone does it. I believe in theory every club is supposed to speak to the other club first then once permission is given speak to the agency but nobody in football follows this.

In short the owner is just throwing his toys out the pram because he probably thought he was getting £80m for this player.

Understood :thumbup: ! I get the tapping-up side of things but I was just wondering if a player submitting a transfer request changes anything and if so what? Ultimately not, I guess I'm looking for a loophole that just isn't there!

The issue of "Tapping Up" hasn't really been enforced or publicly acknowledged for the past ten years or so, I think as an unspoken but necessary compromise against the steeply increasing cost and legal complexity of player transfers. At the same time, we have seen an increasing propensity for clubs to publicly conduct transfer negotiations outside the official transfer windows.

For a long time now it has really been Spurs that has been the outlier among the "big" European clubs for not actively and publicly pursuing players while skirting the official rules for doing so. I've even jokingly criticized Spurs in the past for waiting for the transfer window to open before sending their scouts out to follow preseason friendlies. I think the bottom line is that Spurs have played neatly within the rules for many years now, but the reality of player transfers at the top level is that deals are just too big and complicated to get done without some necessary compromises or looking the other way on some restrictions.

I feel this transfer will go through, and sooner rather than later. Forest will kick up a fuss to save face, but the harder they fight this the more it could damage their standing with agents. If they go after MGW for violating an NDA it's all pretty speculative and he could turn around and sue Forest for violating his contract.

Exatly Big Mak didn't think he'd be an English Int or us being 'smart enough' to meet the clause.

They just want more money so Bik Mak can buy more Big Macs to fill his face...

These are estimates hence why Forest are whinging.

As I've said no one knows exactly what numbers are what in contracts we haven't seen.

If Romano got his info from one side only, however, e.g. CAA, then the initial reports wouldn't have necessarily been correct. We don't know who have him the info, so we can't say that Forest was in agreement also.

The owner just decided to have a meltdown and block everything. Its not rational. He was probably on the beer all day Friday and just freaked out. Everyone at that club is scared of him, dictatorship vibes. Sounds like Spurs were happy to just give him a few days to calm down and realise he hasn't a leg to stand on.
