Transfers The Summer Transfer Edging Thread 2025

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

Damn this thread is close to giving me a brain tumor.

So now .. due to excelling in Championship (!) a 26 year old player who has only sniffed the air in the highest division.. is all of a sudden ... more likely to make it in EPL... than 19 yo lad who ALSO excelled in Championship AND has already played lot more on the top level as well (different positions and mostly out of his main position)?!?

HOW? just fcking HOW is that likelier ?!?

A 26 year who did well in the limited time he played in the PL.

Against a 19 year old that did badly and does not even have a proper position

Is Gray a good fb? No evidence he is
Is he a good CB. Evidence he is isn't .
Is he a good midfielder- no real evidence he is.

Will Gray play in those position if he asked to do so by the club that pays his wages? Yes.

Gray might improve and he might not. He could well be a Skipp or Winks
Solomon is the safer bet.

As far as I can work out we have spent this summer
£60m MGW (to be confirmed)
£30m Tel
£22m Danso
£10m Vuskovic (not sure how much we paid)
£5m Takai

That’s £180m of incomings and a number of squad places taken. None of Vuskovic, Gray or Bergvall can be loaned if we want them to be CT as we need them to complete 3 years as a Spurs player before 21.

On the other side of the coin we have only sold PEH for £17m. So are roughly £160m in the red.

A few thoughts
- we need to get moving on getting players out of the club
- even if there has been £300m of investment this year this is not sustainable unless we can sell players for decent amounts.
- if the investment is coming from Saudi as rumoured, does that open the Saudi market for vending our unwanted players at extortionate prices like some of the other clubs with Saudi connections?
- I don’t think buying Wharton or someone more proven for £80m is realistic against this backdrop. Unless we have serious sales. £10m to £20m for Solomon, Richie, Biss, etc. ain’t cutting it.

I hope I’m wrong though.
Levy lets Romero go for 70 + add ons.

We should be able to get 20-25 for Biss. Bentancur is a 35-40 mil player, as is Kulu. Send Drag back to Italy for 15-20 mil.

I secretly believe that Bar Rafaeli will spend a night with me

When Solomon was 19 yo how many good performances did he have under his belt exactly :) ?
According to my knowledge he was lightyears away from EPL level back then. But you don't really want to compare comparable, do you?

Gray clearly is not a fullback. It takes our previous-manager-level-idiot to put a player with his first few steps acceleration to a most physically demanding position. Hardly Grays fault.
Gray as CB - in that sense, time might tell. Pretty much no one is good EPL level CB. And again, with high line and his first steps pace, he was set up to fail and hardly his fault.
In midfield, I do not think he ever got a real chance, due to being played on positions he is not suited to.

And then we could get 15 mil for Vuskovic, 60 mil for VDV, negotiating a loan-to-buy 50 mil for Kudus and charge Jaynola season ticket of 5 mil and also demand compensation of 10 mil from Nottingham for dealying the MGW deal and oh ofc 50 mil for generational talent Gil and BAM we are deep in the green fantasyland aren't we :D

I don't agree that he was a 'liability' but why we not cutting him the same slack we're cutting others who we're saying we didn't see the best of due to the system?

Davies will always struggle in a high line in a two man CB pairing. Yet that's where he made his appearances last season and we would have been worse off without him. We can do a lot worse than having him around the club as backup and in training this season.

I'm not gonna argue that his time isn't coming to an end. The end may even be this summer if we do decide to move him on. But the level of disrespect some (not you) send his way is shocking.

What are you, his agent?

He's bang average and should only start in an emergency.

He's been a good servant but was past his best years ago.

Why are you guys (and gals and what ever you identify as) even talking about Davies. He's been here since before Enic, it seems, and has never been able to make a position his own.

Sure, his contract was extended; that's not a new contract, just an extension of his existing contract. I hope to the deities that that was old BC trying to ensure we get Hollywood FC to cover Takai's fees when they come for him. I'd rather we not use him as the waterboy, let alone as backup!

Exactly this, lets sign a promising 19 year old and then play him in multiple different positions in a team that is racking up double digits in losses , anyone writing him off after last season is a fool, and they are welcome to come back to this post mid season when he has had a good few months with a manager who will get the best out of him.
Gray is going to be a class player, £40 million will be the equivalent of the £5 million we got Dele for.
