If you do your basic maths you would see that there is quite a gap between 18 & 30, you don't have to buy at either end, there is a happy medium in the middle.
It's a bit of a concern buying a 30yr old who has just had a bit of a flop of a season at Bayern for a particularly combative place in the team. Not against buying experience , but if that was the case why did we not show more interest in Norgard, who Frank knew inside out. Personally think the Paulinha stuff might be a bit of smoke and mirrors, not our modus operandi at all.

So either your concern is about us buying a 'cheap punt' or about his age and his ability and his form?

Also we showed interest in Norgaard but he preferred to go to Woolwich. They moved in when they found out he was interested.

I think after MGW we go for a 6 then we're probably done, we need to do some trimming - Biss maybe Son , Ben Davies, Solomon, Gil

Loans for Lankshear, Yang, Moore (?), Phillips, Devine, Scarlett, Donley, the squad is massive.

If we can keep Richarlison fit, I'm happy for him to be the back up 9 to Dom, think Dom will be much more explosive under Frank, think he can have a 20 goal season.

the 6 ideally would be Wharton (not gonna happen, Palace won't sell) or Baleba - Brighton prob would sell, but at a high price? might be worth it?

I'd say Paulinha seems more likely, Douglas Luiz is off to Everton I think I read.

LB cover still a concern IMO would love Robinson at Fulham but links have died down

Palhinha is a very very good player. We've already got players who can play expansively with the ball, he can pass the ball to them and he does that very well. Watched him play against us 5 times and was an absolute monster, think people get scared with twitter 'expert' stats and forget to use their eyes sometimes.

My concern is Levy might be at his usual buy cheap twice instead of going the extra distance and paying once for what we really need. Paulinhas form also has to be questioned after the yr he had in Germany, which imo calls into question too many variables. He is the wrong side of 30, just came off a really poor season, it's a gamble if he can cope in the Premier league now, so let's face it the only appealing thing here might be the price.

I don't mind Palinha. He's the type of midfielder we are missing. A big aggressive destroyer type. We've never really had this profile. Have to go back as far as Parker/Sandro/Palacios to find anyone comparable. Maybe Wanyama? Not sure if he ever had the legs for it though. Hojbjerg the only player since who you could argue had that profile but PEH didn't have the defensive instinct to play as a lone CDM. Palinha does.

My only concern with this signing is that he could be past his best and we've seen with many of these top CDMs, they bottom out very quickly! Casemiro, Matic, Fabinho all went from being world class to looking useless overnight. Hopefully the Bayern move just didn't fit. He's not a Kompany player so that signing never made since. Kompany needs a ball playing CDM like a Kroos/Rodri/Vitinho and Palinha is never that. Hopefully thats the only reason for his poor season and he is still as good as ever.

More to the point, Norgaard was a depth piece. They signed Zubimendi as their main DM

He's clearly good enough for the Premier League he literally played here a year ago. The problem with him is that he's not great on the ball, he's an excellent destroyer but his ball skills aren't great and hell be found wanting against team who sit in and are hard to break down hence why Bayern didn't use him that much as technically he's not the best.

Not 100% against the signing but I think we can do better personally.

Not a huge amount of quality out there in the DM position. So Palinha for a season or two to fill a hole until we see how Wharton, Baleba, etc develop isn’t the worst idea.

Also, he may be 30, but didn’t play much last season, so a young 30?

Of all the links and possible options out there he's very close to being the worst one. Most of us had hopes for at least 3 or 4 others better than him.

Edit. Don't get me wrong, I don't think he's terrible but its just abit meh.

We won't be closing the gap by much if at all.

Fair enough.

I see this season as one where Frank makes his mark, then we move from there

What personnel are required to do that is the key question.

Lange & co gotta pull their finger out. Maybe grow some balls too and 1/ be brutally honest with the deadwood 2/ dare tell their Daddy Danny that his valuations are ridiculous.

Take 60mil for Romero and say thank you.

Drag, Biss, Richy and Bryan Gil mustn't be in this coming season's squad. That's just gross negligence.

Bentancur and yeah even Kulu & Sarr don't (really) deserve another season.

Kinsky looks like the wrong buy.

Somebody offers us a decent amount for Odobert, I'm definitely listening. Unfortunately it's another year til we can cut his wee French pal.

Will always love him dearly but time for Sonny to find another challenge. Similar sentiment re Gentle Ben.

Easy isn't it.

Who would we get as good if we spent every penny of that?

Football Manager has a lot to answer for.

I have as much of a fixation with Tel as you do, only in the reverse order.

He was exciting at Rennes, flopped big time at Bayern (who know a thing or two about talent ID), did absolutely nothing special whilst on loan with us...but our in-house geniuses still decided he was worth 30 odd mil, because opportunistic signings is our trademark under Levy (see Kudus and MGW for further evidence).

I disagree big time with that decision, because I don't think he's good enough or what we needed. Plus it makes Mikey's path to first team minutes unnecessarily harder.

It’s a crazy decision to bring him in. He hasn’t warranted it at all.

Dragon1 on COYS:

Expecting a center half , mgw and one other i cant discuss , son , solomon and gil will go .

Also says that Romero is staying and VDV is potentially being viewed as a full-back

Usually posts on COYS website.

Often correct, and has been for many years.

I have no clue what connection he has with the club or agents, (and i am not defending him) but he somehow has a contact that is in the club or knows someone who does.

Like most itk some of his info comes to pass others doesn't.
I like reading itk bits like this, I know some don't but don't treat it as gospel and if it comes to pass then you get a bit of buzz knowing about it before most others.
Always apply plenty of salt to it and accept it for what it is

Again; the question "Wharton or Baleba" implies a club that doesn't know what it needs.

Red flag.
