20 years ago our shirt sponsorship sold for £5M/season.

In 2019, 14 years later, it sold for £40M/season.

A 20 year sponsorship does not benefit the club. Inflation narginalizes the income too quickly. Then you're just left with an asset that's tied down long term on below market terms.

Tottenham isn' some L1 outfit starved for revenue that needs to lock down £10M in annual revenue to ensure the survival of the club.

Compound interest of 5% on an annual £5m/season gives you £108,841,147.27 in total after 14 years. Waiting for a 'better deal' can be expensive.

Regardless, the difference between 2005 and 2019 was going from a mid-table team to a CL final team that was finishing in the top 3 in 3/4 of the seasons prior. Of course that makes more money. Stadium sponsors are not like shirt sponsors either because they expect more 'long term' for the brand awareness and familiarity to sink in.

You can't turn down 10+ year deals on the basis that the sponsorship *might* will be worth more in 10 years. Football might also lose its arse, so the longer deals provide stability that can be hedged against the long term debts.

Never get this. He's not good enough to start for us unless we sell Romero. I know its great to have depth but Danso is decent back up and I'd like to clear the way for Vuskovic to be somewhat involved next season. I also think we'll see a much better version of Dragusin under Frank, he was just a terrible fit with ange and made look alot worse than he is!

So I really don't see why we'd sign Guehi or why he'd join us during a world cup year when he will want guaranteed minutes. I'd rather see us sign a quality left back who can push Udogie.

Guarantee if we sign him he ends up a starter by the end of the season - more reliable, mature and consistent than Romero is.

Brilliant centre back.
