This right here, is an absolute prime example of why we will never ever be the side we could be, or compete consistently for top trophies under this ownership.

Here we have a player, in a position we have allegedly been trying to strengthen for some time, available for a reasonable fee, who would immediately come in and upgrade the squad, but what do we do rather than go for him?
Give Ben Davies a new contract.

This was the summer we had to say adios to Ben. Been a great servant, is a top lad, but he isn’t and has never been good enough.

Hato is an immediate, attainable upgrade on Davies and as per usual we are siting on our arses.

We finished 17th last season and through a miracle we are in the CL next season.
To have only one new player in so far is disgraceful and utterly negligible.

That's not what the Deloitte figures say.

And I don't want to be a check your sources guy, but

We're losing the forest for the trees here though.

We can sign Alexander Isak. We could have signed Florian Wirtz. Maybe couldn't have done both, certainly can't sign 11 of those guys, but the club's strategy has conspicuously avoided going anywhere near the maximum of what is possible for a marquee individual acquisition with our financial capacity.
We may have the money to sign marquee players, but these players prefer to sign for more established clubs. We'd have to offer some crazy wages to entice them and, even then, it's debatable they would choose us. That's just where we are in the pecking order right now.

No idea why Forrest think its a good idea to drag this out unless MGS has intimated to them that he'll keep his options open if they can't find amicable common ground with us.

In other words he'll look at other proposals from other Clubs because he surely doesn't intend to sign a new contract with Forrest.

So yeah Forrest are praying they can instigate some form of bidding war so they can get more for him.

I think it's more about that than simply just denying us.

It's always about the green.

And critically from there that the rest of the league should not be forced into similar financial practices as a way to keep up competitively. Because that's how you become Italy.

I mean we're kind of already at entropy aren't we.

It started when Hall & Shepherd were able to blow Woolwich out of the water with the crazy £15m for Shearer, and then United paying £30m for Rio a few seasons later - which I remember was the times where Championship Manager would have spurs with a £7m transfer budget and you'd get £1.25m for tarrico. Then Roman came along and spent cash like he was terminal, and the prices went up for everyone because all of a sudden the PL was seen as rich. Then PSG go spending a quarter of a billion on a fat brazilian with a glass skeleton, and all of a sudden teams in Europe want £100m for selling back english academy rejects. Yet they won't spend that money on a Kane easily.
Not too far off the same experience you can get going abroad, where there's local prices and tourist prices.

But now there's not just one Roman Abrahmovic now, there's at least 3 or 4 of them (Abu Dhabi, PIF, Clearlake). Only one club can win the league each year and no doubt there will eventually be a pump-and-dump when they get bored or move onto a different sport or league where they can get their fix without spending £500m and finishing 8th

Forest are obviously happy to pimp MGW to anyone but us if the rumours of being offered to City are true, so they’re reconciled to selling him.

You make it clear that we’re not doing a deadline day deal for him so you set a date for Forest to accept your proposed terms or you move on.

It’s then up to them whether they accept it or risk being stuck with a player that wants out.

Obviously happy to pump MGW based on what?

But we don’t

For some reason Ornstein and Romano are held up like bastions of truth as if they don’t get their info from agents like any other of the bullshitters.

The only thing that’s even remotely confirmed is that MGW is a Forest player and there’s been no quotes from him, his agent, or either club to suggest anything else is going on.
Orstein has built his reputation on solid, well researched information from inside sources.

He’s not a bullshit merchant like a lot of them and he’s incredibly protective of his reputation, so to suggest he’s made this up for clicks is nuts.

Once a release clause is triggered the transfer is normally as good as done. No one foresaw the meltdown of the obstinate Greek and it’s caught everyone off guard.

Hato is an immediate, attainable upgrade on Davies and as per usual we are siting on our arses.
He's 19 mate, is he an immediate upgrade?

He is 5 days older than Archie Gray, and is being purchased for less. Shouldn't we just use him?

I don't want to disagree too strongly with the spirit of what you're saying, we should be more aggressive in strengthening the squad, certainly. But if we pushed in more financial resources, the Todd Boehly strategy of "overfill the squad up to the bleeding edge of the PSR limit with every talented 18-22 year old money can buy" would not be my choice of what to do with it.

Poor, poor Tottenham Hotspur 😭😭
