We've wasted so much money on poor/average players over the past few years. 120m on two very ordinary strikers that we couldn't sell for half that much. Really poor scouting department. Just pay a little bit extra and you could get elite players but we pay high prices for mid tier players after their only good season and hope to get lucky.

I think we'll see their recruitment get hurt badly by this- if they aren't willing to honor release clauses how are they going to keep convincing NMS and Murillos of the world to come to them when they could fairly easily regress back into lower mid-table or get relegated again?

We don’t need them, we do a pretty good job of it on our own.
 
Situation with signings is a little more complex. We need to drop 2 players for the Premier League, and 8 players for the Champions League. It's going to be pretty tough to choose 17 players for the champions league. As it stands, we can sign only homegrown players in the Premier League - and cannot add to Champs league squad without dropping a major player.
