It's weird, that Saudi backing just isn't filling the credibility gap between Newcastle and the global elite in the way that felt seamless for Man City who, how easily we forget, were once a byword for "shitty Northern banter club".

PSR is a big factor certainly, the early years of the Sheikhs at City they just lit money on fire in stupid deal after stupid deal, but the Saudis aren't even spending up to the ceiling and with this Isak thing it's obvious that they don't even have the full belief within their own building.

It's hard to build a winner and even with all their riches it's in some ways not that weird to see them struggling. What I find really inexplicable though is the seeming lack of sense of urgency.
Listen to the latest Athletic FC Podcast and that should answer a number of your questions. In a nutshell, their football operations structure is a bit lacking and they want to grow the club the right way rather than doing dodgy stuff a la Chelsea.

Get Romero on the phone.

Drop every penny of that MGW 60m on this guy

He’s built for the PL. Can play 8 or 10.

The problem is Real. They own 50% of the rights to the player and have some pretty favorable buy-back clauses inserted in the agreement with Como. Como is desperately trying to acquire 100% of the player's rights, but doesn't look like Real are willing to budge. Will be a really tough one, even if the player wants to join us.

The reality is, there simply aren’t enough top-quality players available to match the number of clubs with serious money to spend. We’re now seeing clubs paying £60–70 million for players who aren’t anywhere near world class. Meanwhile, the top four continue to strengthen and widen the gap, while we’re being left behind, forced to scrap for players others have passed on.
We should have made those two or three key signings before heading out on tour. Pre-season should be about integrating new players for Frank to work with — not scrambling to fill gaps when the season’s almost here.

Would be a complicated deal because Real Madrid owns 50% of his rights and has a buyback clause, plus he's very young and only really played one season, but he definitely turned heads and looks a big talent.

Incidentally his father was Poch's teammate at Newell's Old Boys back in the day, alongside Maradona.

Not sure that it is. Totally confused as to why people are hyping up a player that is less interesting than Daka was

That’s a bit silly. I’m not totally sold on him but he’s very fast, very strong and has a great leap on him as well as being able to strike a ball incredibly cleanly.

He’s not very polished or composed yet but he’s very young for a CF and producing good numbers. He’s well beyond what Daka ever was.

We pay the highest salaries for executives and board members in the premier league. If they can’t do complicated deals, why are they so well paid?

Real would probably love to cash in now they have Guler and Mastantuono. Como would receive a record fee incoming even if they got 50% of that 60m. They could use it to get El khannouss

Sure but they could also tell us to go fuck ourselves.

Or they could say sure, take the player, but we retain the under-market buyback we had with Como, in which case we get all of the "still-learning 20 year old" with none of the "future superstar upside".

What I mean by "complicated" is quite specifically "having enough money is not the only factor".
