Aye, I don’t know of a single true fan of any club (except a couple of blues) who doesn’t have a mighty opinion of him as a footballer and also as a bloke. Marvellous on both counts.
One of very few that can transcend rivalries and be loved by football fans for just being a great footballer and a decent chap. Couple here may not agree but the only other one that came close for me to his widespread respect was Zola.
I was trying to look for players who put in about a decade of service - and those two in particular are recognised as the heartbeat of our greatest ever side.
