Unless I missed it , in which case I apologise I don’t think any of the Levy defenders answered my question .

If we do not sign a top quality experienced replacement now for Maddison is that an acceptable scenario to them that can be justified . That was the question maybe not word for word
I replied to The Extra Mile(sey) The Extra Mile(sey) about this.

We need a passer in midfield. Not interested in a dribbler. Yes a good midfielder is required.

“Top quality experienced” is not going to happen. Who was the last world class player we signed in tbeir prime? Isn’t that what you’re setting up? You’re a fool if you think that’s happening.

But a good midfielder who can pass the ball is needed.

I disagree with your summary on several points.

The Spurs squad that went into the 92 / 93 season, the first season of the Premier League, was not as bad as you suggest.

The side was in transition and finished 8th in the Premier League and reached the semi final of the F.A. Cup.

There was plenty to get hold of at this stage. The new signings; Teddy Sheringham, Neil Ruddock and Darren Anderton had all hit the ground running and the emergence of Sol Campbell and Nick Barmby from the youth team had turned everything around.

We lost the F.A. Cup semi to Woolwich and tbh we were robbed by some shit refereeing in that game.

They went on and won both the domestic cups; Sugar sacked Venables and Ruddock demanded a transfer.

This was the start of a pattern we became used to under Sugar and it continued under ENIC.

94/95 season was very similar.

Several great signings from the 94 World Cup, finished 7th in the league and again lost an F.A, Cup semi final to Everton; having beaten Liverpool, in the quarter final, at Anfield.

The decade of despair was from 95 - 05.

Spurs were still credible until 95. Woolwich were actually shite as well by 95 but then appoited Wenger and we went in opposite directions.

Campbell leaving for N5, in 01, being the low point.

Sugar did not understand football and didn't like football people in general in my opinion.

He was the wrong man for Spurs and ENIC are just Sugar's methods with a bit more luck and a slightly better idea about what they are doing.

Levy has had better luck and judgement regarding some of the people he has hired to administer the football operation at Spurs than Sugar did.

Sugar fucked up regarding the timing of sacking Terry Venables; appointed Ossie Ardiles at the wrong time and gave Gerry Francis too much money to spend. Gross was just a disaster without his English speaking right hand man. The media took him apart.

By the time Sugar appointed Geroge Graham he was getting desperate.

Levy didn't get it right until the Arnesen / Jol appointments.

The ten years in the wilderness changed THFC.

It's been jam tomorroiw ever since.

You are splitting hairs

Scholar all but bankrupted the club by 1991 and it was downhill from there for a bit - no money meant the squad was not being renewed properly.

Just when to call the bottom is a bit arbitrary, certainly by about 93 it was painfully obvious the direction of travel despite the presence of the odd star such as Teddy Sherringham, youngsters Campbell and Carr coming through and indeed winning the League Cop in 1999. But the general standard of the squad had substantially declined from that which we had in the 80's with a few good players in it they were totally outnumbered by the number of poorer quality players.

Without a doubt the turning point was the appointment of Frank Arnessen who gave us 'Frankie's funtime Friday's when he brought in about 24 first team and u21 players in one summer with Martin Jol taking over as manager in about October and miraculously forming a decent team which within about 2 years took 5th position, having been in 4th place since Christmas.

And when we came 5th under Jol for the first time in 2005 it was our best since 1989/90 and most of that time we had been mid table at best - here by season our placings
92/93 - 8th
93/94 - 14th
94/95 - 7th
95/96 - 8th
96/97 - 10th
97/98 - 14th
98/99 - 11th
99/00 - 10th
00/01 - 12th
01/02 - 9th
02/03 - 10th
03/04 - 14th
04/05 - 9th - Jol's first season
05/06 - 5th

So a huge break of 15 years or so between our peak in 60's/70's/80's and our 'rebirth under Jol and forward 20 years to today, and bar the odd season (last one under Ange, one under Ramos come to mind) we've been pretty consistently around that 5th position - something we could have only dreamed about in 90's through to mid 2000's

Something newer fans don't know

And for those like Ed Vanderlay talking about prestige.... Champions League is the prestige of modern day football, a competition we have qualified for more consistently under ENIC than at any other time in our entire history by a long long way.
More than the prestige, modern football is so chained to finances that its the standard because without it you're starting with (-)£50M in your pocket. Hard to catch up.

"top quality experienced replacement for Maddison"

Ah sure, they're giving them away with meal deals down in Tesco!

Perhaps you lot should give Lange an email and share your experience. I'm sure he won't find it patronising.

Ah yes, I'm sure our rivals would act in the exact same way. Meanwhile, Chelsea going for Xavi Simons just to have a nice rotation option eh?

Imagine having owners with cash to spare. Must be nice.

Lack of regular game time probably responsible for that.

Difficult to know why Citeh bothered buying Grealish especially for the money they paid.

Both Grealish’s and Calvin-Philips’ careers have nose dived under Pep.

You have to wonder if Pep can be a bit like Jose and bin off a player as some sort of statement. I’ll never forgive Jose for wasting Bale’s loan with us minimising his game time.
Completely agree on Bale. Should have just played him at lb and asked him to ping balls around if he wasn’t 100%, even at LM. Anywhere, genius

I reckon we need someone who can do both, though not easy to find, can see why we wanted MGW as he is a very tenacious dribbler and also has an impressive passing range, I can see we would improve a lot with a good passer in the 8 role but we have no one in any of the 3 midfield spots who can advance play by going past players, having another player on top of Kudus who can get us up the pitch 20-30 yards and take 2 opposition players out of the equation would make us far more threatening vs teams that sit deep IMO. Would also help draw oppo players out of position as they move to cover empty space, allowing guys like Johnson/Kudus/Odobert/Tel to thrive in the half-spaces between midfield and the wing. But also need someone with the vision to send those guys through on goal with a defence-splitting 30 yard pass which we also sorely lack. Hard one to get right. Really think we have fucked it by not gunning harder for getting the MGW deal done.

That's why I like Levy and ENIC. We're back at the top table where we belong under them

Yeah if you break it down by the numbers it doesn't look good. But we also conceded the 4th most goals in the league.

This year is going to be much different than last anyways. It's not gonna be Ange's this is who we are.

This year, we have to place our trust in Frank to approach each match differently and use our squad to get the best result possible.

Solanke, Johnson, Kudus, and Richy have all proven they can score goals in the league. Are there more questions surrounding those players than we would like? Certainly. But they've done it before. Anything we can get from Odobert, is a bonus.

Shouldn't need 2 or 3 goals to stand a chance of winning, either.

They were indeed dark days under Sugar, he did stabilise the club but as mentioned earlier it was always a relief to get to 40 points every season. Before he took over I had a season ticket for 5 seasons first on the shelf standing then had to have seat, the new East Stand was awful especially with the posts!

Didn't think Sugar had anything to do with the east stand? Thought his contributions were the north and south with the jumbotrons

And for those like Ed Vanderlay talking about prestige.... Champions League is the prestige of modern day football, a competition we have qualified for more consistently under ENIC than at any other time in our entire history by a long long way.
I can concede the that is a fair point . Although I think there is more prestige in winning a trophy than qualifying for one

Not quite sure when we starting fawning over the daftest run club in the league.

Nor when we started lusting after a player that has bomb out of Barca and also PSG not once, but twice. Raiola may be dead but I'm sure the circus still carries on with his players.

You’re right of course , no other clubs have signed any quality players this window . It’s impossible, we need to sack Frank and make Ethan Hunt our manager

Does Madison not count as "top quality experienced"?

Only player I can see who might be available who can do that is Akliouche. He has it all. But Monaco quoted PSG €70m.

Otherwise Paqueta or El Khannous maybe ???

Like you say, MGW was perfect but it’s tough now.
