Player Micky van de Ven

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

I remember Mourinho saying something along the lines of "I like when players love the previous manager. Because if they can love him, then why not me also".. Something like that..

I think the same with these players. Most of them don't seem like utter dickheads.. I think they're mostly good guys who will get on with their work in the pre season.. I'm sure they're sad that someone they like working with is gone.. But if they can develop a connection with Ange.. Then why not Frank.
Is that why Mourinho is still single?

In match like today against Bayern, or in Super Cup - personally i would put him as LB and pair Romero with Danso as CBs.

In low block we dont need his speed that much in central area - and also he doesnt seem to me as that great penalty box defender. Kane did him terribly btw, reminded Newcastle game a little bit 2 seasons ago.

Wondering whether Frank will give a try for such setup at some point.

One of the best CB in the world.

Lol.

Yesterday should be a bit of an eye-opener for those that said an attacking, possession based, high line system was bad for VDVs hammy's.

The truth is VDV is one of the best CBs in the world if you want to play a high line because of his recovery pace and duel dominance.

Yesterday we saw that playing a deeper block put him in situations that don't make the most of his strengths. He can still be good like he was in the EL final with that incredible clearance but if Frank wants him to do that every week then he's not designing the system to suit the biggest strengths he has in his squad.

Micky sure is one of the fastest. But he's nowhere near the top 10 in my books.

He struggles in the air, his positioning is often questionable, his reading of the game ain't that great, can't keep a clean sheet to save his life, elite strikers like Kane or Isak will easily embarrass him...

And his body is made of papier mache.

Without those eye-catching recovery sprints under Angeball it’s easy to see the flaws in his game.

I absolutely back him to improve but if you judge him on the basic defensive elements then he’s a long way from being elite. Hopefully a meticulous manager like Frank can make him into a top player.

Isak scored one goal against him. That don’t count as easily embarrassing him. Kane scored an offside goal against him in a friendly

Hard to take you seriously when you get this hyperbolic AGAINST our own players tbh.

People didn't want to hear. People here claiming he was BETTER than Toby Alderweireld. He isn't the finished article and spent a year and a bit learning fuckall under a clown. The work starts now.

I said it in the Newcastle game thread but I'll say again that I really think VDV and Romero are elite front foot defenders, ie patrolling the open pitch and getting in front of attackers or fighting for loose balls, but in terms of defending deep and being camped around the penalty box it doesn't really suit them.
Neither of them are elite aerially and positionally they aren't as solid on the back foot as they are when being proactive. In a way I think we need to avoid being too deep otherwise we reduce their effectiveness massively.

Kane is much slower than Micky and say he was a yard offside, that touch & the way he turned him, I'd be ashamed. But then again Kane is the best CF in the world.

I seem to remember a game season before last where Isak tormented Micky all day. But yeah, Isak does that to pretty much everyone.

Is Micky's aerial game elite? Nope. Do his reading of the game & positioning leave a fair bit to be desired? Yep. That ain't being hyperbolic, pal. But we know what you're like when someone - especially Deuterz Deuterz or I - dare criticise one of your protégés.

I like Micky and he's still a young CB, but he's got lots to learn and that's not just an opinion.

My view on Micky is that he has unbelievable potential as the athleticism and ability on the ball is there .. some of what he can do is really really special.

But because he’s exciting and fast he did get overhyped in terms of the player he is right now by our fans.

But very far away from being one of our problems so I don’t really talk about it - he has loads of quality.

Isak scored 1 high profile goal v Micky. Which game did he torture him all game?

Kane was offside. If there was VAR that goal wouldn’t even be discussed

Micky is guilty on 3 goals. Isak burned him twice, especially the first. Gordon fooled him once. As a defender, the rule is: you get put on your ass, that makes you a clown. Bit like in the NBA when a point guard with sick handles breaks your ankles.

Doesn't matter. You play til the ref blows the whistle. Gotta be stronger and not get turned by Kane the way he did...prime Messi or Suarez does that to you, fair enough. But we're talking a 32yo Kane.

Anyway. You think Micky is a world class CB and I don't think he's there yet. I hope he stays fit & smashes that ceiling this season. Wanna see more thunderbolts, more crazy runs like vs Utd, more goal-line clearances.
