Transfers The Summer Transfer Edging Thread 2025

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

So how is it in this thread today? A comforting space for calm and rational opinions and discussion....?

Fuck Levy and his useless team of underlings.
As always!

What The Hell Wtf GIF

We don’t know that he would have come here if not for Havertz injury. Come on man, the chances of Woolwich hijacking this deal was always sky high. They’ve been flirting with each other all summer.

The only chance we had of signing Eze was Woolwich not coming in for him. And they did. Doesn’t matter when we agreed a fee, Woolwich were kept in the loop by Eze and his agents the whole time.

I get what you say and it appears to be true as well.

But the massive dissapointment and frustration is not coming only from this deal.

It also comes from the fact that we failed in pursuit of MGW in the same window already.

And from the fact that after this deal falling through we will not sign a ready made attacking midfield on Eze level this window (!! mark my words !!). He was THE ONLY OPTION, I've seen no links to any alternative on similar level. And we are in it is now in last 10 days of the transfer window. Look how long our transfers drag all the time.
In the last week of window the clubs that were forced to sell have done their selling and clubs that don't need to do it cannot find suitable replacement. Which means we either do nothing at all and use classic "we tried" excuse. Or we go in for an average player that his current club is not bothered to lose and offer way higher transfer fee and salary than he is worth and will not get needed contribution out of him nor can we move him on due to his high salary.

And all of that is sad!

Woolwich spending under Arteta is near £1b, with sales only at £230m. Either they're going to have to make big sales over the next couple of windows or they're getting punished by PSR. They're second biggest sale is still Anelka.

We aren't a top 4 side anymore, and we're on the cusp of falling out of top 6. Our place will be fighting for 6-8th place, hoping we pinch 5th, and if we don't the manager will pay the price. Easier to get a new manager in and give him a signing or two than back up properly.

Ange was sold down the river, somehow won us a trophy but was hung out to try. Same for every other manager before him.
Why you got to bring Ange into this?? He might have been slightly hamstrung, but he was fucking shit, and surpassed everyone's expectations of how bad a league campaign could be. We weren't even good going forward under this "all out attack" moron

Woolwich played everyone by pretending they'd to sell in order to buy. That was clearly a lie. They had the wriggle room all along or else they'd be in PSR trouble now. I think its fair to assume that Eze and his agents were constantly keeping Woolwich in the loop in the hope they would hijack.

It made no sense to me why the deal wasn't finalized last week. People kept saying "oh wait for palace to get their replacement" and "oh these deals take time" but something stank all along. Woolwich were always looming in the background.

Yep. I also think Orstein was publicly saying propagands pieces for Woolwich and doing bumsteers by saying Woolwich were no longer in for Eze. I think they leaked through him. Something wasn’t right the whole time. Ornstein had this smirk even when he was talking about Eze to Spurs earlier in the week, it was like he knew something but couldn’t say.

He was never tweeting about Eze to Spurs at all, lots of silence and then he comes in with the big bomb how Woolwich were closing in on Eze.

He knew the whole time.

Woolwich always knew they had Eze right where they wanted him and they could simply wait until the last moment to trigger the deal, and it’s what they did.

Oh bugger off, Ange was useless.

Ange and Levy were both problems, it's not an either or matter.

Hence the 2nd part of my post. What now? Or was Eze the only game and something they were so confident in, despite Woolwich being in the picture as you and others have pointed out. We do still need a 10, right, or was Eze just opportunistic?

Well that’s the big question. Unfortunately players of Ezes quality aren’t readily available. We’re fucked basically. It sucks. I can see why the club tried and failed. After Eze most other targets are big risks and might not even be available

Levy and ENIC cannot be displaced until someone pays them their magic number and even then they are under no obligation to accept.

Then we have to hope that the new owner would satisfy our demands.

What can be done? Continuous demos against Levy and ENIC, non stop Levy out at games.

Stop spending money on the concourses. Stop spending money in the club shop. Unfollow all Spurs official channels
I don't think ENIC are interested in selling until the NDP are done! Maybe not then either

The release clause was never an option. Do you realise what the payment terms are? Something like 50 or 60 million upfront. No club can afford that. There’s a reason both us and Woolwich had to wait until after the release clause expired for palace to entertain negotiations.

I get the anger but the amount of people with clearly no clue how these things work is crazy. Levy and the club can be blamed for being naive or being played, they can be blamed for our appalling transfer window. But they can’t be blamed for not paying the release clause and or forcing Eze to choose us over Woolwich. It’s ridiculous.

We never had a free run for Eze. Whenever we agreed a deal. Woolwich had the opportunity and the right to match it and take Eze from us and that’s exactly what they did.
You have no clue what the payment terms on his release clause were. We were still negotiating the payment structure 10 days later when Woolwich came in and offered faster payments on the deal. There’s no excusing that.

We went into this deal with full knowledge of the player agreeing a deal with Woolwich earlier in the window, with the players full background and affinity to Woolwich known and with us desperately needing an attacking mid. It took us 5 days to finally offer 55 mil + add ons, when we should have being doing everything within our power to get a deal agreed as soon as possible so we know one way or another what’s happening and if we need to move onto other targets. Trying to “win” the negotiation and try get the best deal like levy always does was not the right way to go about this transfer with the context behind it.
