I’m no apologist for levy so I do think it is unfair that the media are portraying this as a fuck up from spurs. ( unless we lowballed)
If he really wanted to join the deal would have been done and he would have done his medical. We should not have to beg players to come here. This was never close to being done so perhaps palace and eze played us and strung us along.it would be nice if we came out and state what was and was not agreed.

You think that Spurs coming out and publicly admitting that they were manipulated and strung along is going to make it look like less of a fuck up, or that we're less pathetic?

IF we were just strung along and we did nothing about it like aggressively pursue other targets in parallel, it's even more pathetic.

I agree. The deal has a strange look about it in that it appears Crystal Palace was delaying on behalf of Woolwich. They don't appear to have gained a lot beyond what they could have gotten by closing the deal earlier with Spurs. So, what happened? It could be the money was similar but the terms of payment were better with Woolwich paying more up front. Perhaps Levy kept trying to gain small advantages and lost the deal over insignificant amounts of money. The matter of not selling so Eze could play one more game doesn't seem plausible except as a delaying tactic. That suggests to me that given a choice between executing a deal with Levy or some other owner they are not going to trade with Spurs.

I've guessed that Eze had decided he really prefers Woolwich (the first academy he joined and had to move from out of about 3 as he was deemed 'not good enough' before he joined QPR), as its really down to the player where he goes if the money from 2 clubs are similar so Palace won't care.

But its really impossible to be sure - other than Palace/Eze created lots of time for Woolwich by telling a number of fibs,

You should be ashamed for posting shit like that. I’m actually embarrassed for you.

these two names being mentioned a fair bit, we'll have to just overpay and get it done.

Fans need to be appeased, the noise is toxic around the club at the moment.

Quick movement on one of these guys would calm things down a bit, but we have to pay over their value to get one of them.

Levy has never cared about this before.

He'll just hope Frank has a decent start and it blows over.

When the squad starts getting diminished in Season 2 he'll sack the manager and repeatt

So Eze to the scum, eh? That would explain the 150 pages since I last looked.

Not comparable to the MGW case, given Eze's choice was always the scum and there's not much we could do about that, but the optics of two failed transfers that were oh so close are not good.

Let's face it, we're not an ideal destination for top established players. Being in the CL this year is viewed as a one-off by most. If we manage to achieve CL for 2-3 years on the trot perceptions will change. Until then, even clubs like United will pip us to players, just by virtue of their history and significantly more substantial financial might.

It's a shame, because we have been really unlucky with timing. If the stadium had opened in 2015, we would have had the resources to build on the Poch team of the 2016-19 era and would probably be an established top 3 team right now. Or if we had a similar run to the Poch era between 2021-24 we would be in a very strong position.

In any case, it is what it is. Let's hope Frank can help us perform at our optimal capability and jump start a new golden era. If he manages to do that, players will think twice about considering other teams.
