Well yeh... He'd been with them 8 years; things are able to get more systematic/streamlines over such a long time.

TBF..... There seems to be a lot of cases where we're scoping players over longer periods of time..... Doesn't mean you end up pulling the trigger and/or the deal is appealing to all sides.

BJ, Tel , Maddison, Eze all recent examples. Other's I've no doubt forgot.
Just not this window it seems!

:ange-blow:

Simons will not happen.

Either we won’t pay the wages he wants or Chelsea will sign him.

Don’t get your hopes up.

This is just Levy going for another unattainable target so he can say “we tried”.

If there were any truth to the rumour about Chelsea moving for Fermin Lopez, then yes

Simons wants to move on from Leipzig and we may end up his only option. 5 o'clock in the morning, you can either go home with the girl you didn't fancy or you could go home by yourself. What do you do? Yes, exactly
There’s no planet where Barca let him go imo.

He’s home grown and the fans love him.

I didn't know any of this. So he was our main target once MGW deal fell apart but we didn't move on it because Chelsea were his clear preference? I heard he wants big wages - prob in the 200k region.

He was actually our main target along with MGW. Pivoted to MGW when we realised he had a release clause, possibly Frank slightly preferred MGW or it was a better financial deal. But then when MGW fell apart, Chelsea had already jumped ahead of us and had convinced Simons to join them.

We've been trying to change his mind ever since and I guess hoping that Chelsea can't bid for him.

Chelsea won't sign Xavi Simons and Fermin Lopez. I don't want to do Lange's job for him but surely it would make sense scope out a move for Lopez in case we get hijacked for Simons?

I mean this really should be common sense but given our total incompetence during this transfer window who knows.

I just hope we are looking at a number of options because high high chance Chelsea hijack simons.

Wages won't be an issue, we've been talking to his camp all summer. If his wages were too high we wouldn't still be talking to them now.

Tottenham look to rival Chelsea for Xavi Simons

Spurs are desperate to add a new attacking midfielder after missing out on deals for Eberechi Eze and Morgan Gibbs-White

Tottenham Hotspur are holding talks over a bid to rival Chelsea for Xavi Simons.

Simons has been on Chelsea’s radar for some time with the club wanting to offload Nicolas Jackson or Christopher Nkunku before pressing ahead with a move of their own.

Chelsea have also been evaluating a move for Barcelona’s Fermin Lopez, which may open the door for Spurs to try to move to the front of the queue for Simons.

Tottenham have been interested in Simons for some time and there is optimism he would be open to a move to north London, despite his apparent interest in joining Chelsea.

Having missed out on Morgan Gibbs-White and Eberechi Eze, Spurs are desperate to land at least one new attacking midfielder before the transfer window shuts.

Simons wants to leave RB Leipzig this summer with the German club valuing him around £60m, which Tottenham were willing to pay for Gibbs-White and Eze.

There will be some nervousness within Tottenham, however, about formally bidding for Simons and being hijacked by Chelsea, given they missed out to Woolwich on Eze.

The likelihood is that Spurs will only make an offer if they believe they can quickly close a deal and minimise the threat of Chelsea stealing Simons away.

Tottenham are also interested in Monaco star Maghnes Akliouche and Como’s Nico Paz, while a deal for Manchester City winger Savinho has been difficult to negotiate.

Simons can play centrally as a No 10 or off the left or right and will perfectly fill the void in head coach Thomas Frank’s Tottenham squad.

Chelsea’s interest in Simons has prompted interest from RB Leipzig in re-signing Nkunku and that could yet be a factor that comes into play.

Manchester United winger Alejandro Garnacho remains a target of Chelsea, while Jackson has interest from a number of clubs including Bayern Munich, Aston Villa and at least one other big Premier League club.

Woo! My transfer window excitement has gone from negative to neutral!

Interest, evaluation, holding talks, negotiate.....transfer window bingo completed!

I didn't put on my best shirt and aftershave to be beating the sausage off myself at 5am!

It's Chelsea. Would you be surprised if they sign Simons, Garnacho and Fermin? They are ridiculous.

Simons is a great little player but I do have some character question marks. Pretty sure he would see Spurs as a temporary stop. But as long as we are fine with him for 1-2 two seasons it could work.
