Transfers The Summer Transfer Edging Thread 2025

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

Think Xavi is probably the first time we've ever "gazumped" another big team on wages. Absolutely no idea what his long term plans are but Chelsea aren't going to pay the wages we've offered him, hard sell to someone like Palmer to say the guy fighting for your place (ISH) is worth £70,000 more a week than you. Again all the bollocks about Chelsea not putting in a bid probably stems from they weren't going to match our wages so what's the point.

Honestly think he's got the ability to be the best player in our team, fucking mental signing.

Looks like we have made three good signings every chance they all hit the ground running something we obviously needed. We still need more but that's because we are still playing catch up but for now am happy to be proven wrong about not signing proven guys that are ready now not maybe in a year or so .Hopefully get a win against the Cherries to keep the spirits up .

Kane can fuck off to man united with his mate Neville. Not welcome back at Spurs.

Hopefully we can tie up the akanji deal next. I think thats a really smart signing. Great experience, knows the pl inside out, cl, played in big games on big occasions. Big physical leader.

Would allow spence/udogie fight out lb whilst also having cover for porro in the other.

Good price also and wont obstruct the youngsters for too long

I think Tel is the left wing we brought in for this summer. Trouble is, it was before Frank came in. I’m not sure he is convinced yet. Plenty of time though.
Frank had been in 3 days when we signed Tel. Presume it was far down the line by then so he went with it.
Of the two, Odobert looks the best bet. Tel has shown nothing really. We have so many wide players he might have to make his mark at centre forward against the likes of Doncaster. Don’t think he will get much game time at all.

He's 30 and they have a big squad. Now that Ait-Nouri is there Gvardiol will play mostly as a CB so someone will need to get cut. They signed Khusanov in January too and probably want to give him an opportunity.

Dias, Gvardiol, Stones, Ake, Akanji, Khusanov, that's 6 players for 2 positions.
Reading some City fans comments, his level dropped the last two seasons too. They are not particularly fussed about him going.

Both Tel and Odobert are long term projects for Frank I think. Look at the time he spent developing Mbeumo. They bought him at 19, and it took him a couple of seasons before he became a regular, and then a season or two more before he became a dangerous PL goalscorer.

You probably don’t get 3-4 seasons at a club like us, but let’s see where both are after a year. They both need to get stronger in their core for me. At the moment any challenge and they hit the floor. They need to using their bodies to bounce off defenders like Xavi will be doing.

I'm a bit mixed on Akanji, City seem to think he's their worst CB and nowhere near as good as he was. Seems to lack concentration at key times.

But when I watched him play two seasons ago I thought he was class. Didn't notice him as much last season.

But then, he's better than Davies so it's an upgrade in that respect.

I think Odobert will be our new left winger.
Signing another midfielder would cement things.

I'd much rather have Ake of the two. Never rated Akanji. I think he's a liability defensively.
He was definitely good in his first couple of seasons for City. His pace was a real comfort blanket for Pep. His passing and carrying numbers are still good, but I’m not sure how he’d cope with pressure and box defending if we’re playing a more counter-attacking style.

Still, for the price and with his experience, particularly in the CL, he’s a decent understudy for Mickey. It’s a quantum fucking leap up from having to watch Davies struggle at CB last season anyway.

Nah, not for this season.

There's a reason we are looking to break our club record to sign Savinho.

LW is the only area left where we need to upgrade.

Odobert has not shown anywhere near enough to be starting for us at the level we aspire to be. So this season there is no chance he becomes a regular starter unless he has a phenomenal break out season, and on the evidence so far, that isn't happening.

Johnson gets goals but he just doesn't offer enough as a regular starter for a top team. I see him much more as a rotation option on both sides. If he isn't getting goals he is a passenger. He can't retain possession, beat a man, play incisive passes, or do anything really other than run in a straight line, finish and obviously his movement and anticipation is fantastic in terms of scoring goals. So whilst that is really valuable, top teams need a bit more from that position.

Savinho for example, has insane technical ability, and once he adds more goals to his game, he becomes the all round attacker that Johnson can never be.

Akanji is apparently on £180k a week. Do we really want to make our third highest earner at the club a 4th choice CB?

If the wages are true this will cause disruption in the team. So in that respect, it’s a no from me.
