Fair reply. I don't know is the answer but playing devil's advocate, Donley playing alongside a higher calibre of player, under a coach who plays to his strengths might well help. It also might not. I guess I'm just wondering why we're lacking creativity, and then not giving some of these lads the chance to shine.

Looking at the likes of Huijsen, Nwaneri, Lewis Skelly and, TAA as examples of players who've gotten game time where opportunity has presented itself, and taken it...TAA, for example, might well have been shipped out on loan were Liverpool not short of players (same with Bale funnily enough although he was a little further ahead to be fair).

But this is purely out of curiosity and a desperation (too much?) for the club to be better at having youth players make the leap.
Huijsen was bought in from Juve for about 15m so not from the academy. The other players impressed when they played. Lewis Skelly ended up starting for England . TAA was always looked on as a future star at Anfield. Similar to what we were thinking about Mikey. LWB looked quite at home v Doncaster. Only a few mins but that’s what we need to see. Hope Mikey can improve but if the manager gets sacked his chances will be very limited. Every chance he goes somewhere else in January.
Youth football is not an exact science . One thing for sure, winning trophies at youth level doesn’t mean that much.

should have been more specific with Huijsen, and his age. Certainly no science to it - although there should be by now (he says having failed his science GCCE's quite impressively).

Saturday 4 October @ 11.00 - Burnley u18 v Spurs u18 (U18 PL Cup)

Last u18 Squad
D Thompson, Sandiford, Agyekum, Olajide, Tingey, Beggs (Feeney 60), Myrtaj, Wellspring, Boast (Offiah 74), Muslika (Moncur 60), Adewole (c) (Thomas 68).
Substitute (not used): B Irow.

The Youth League match last Tuesday might have taken some players out of last weekend's u18 match (eg Byrne, B Irow) and they might come back into u18 squad but they might equally be played in the u21 match on Sunday.

A few u18 players who missed out last weekend who might return including Salter and Glancy. And there is also an u17 Premier League Cup match on Monday 8th v Ipswich @ 19.00 which will need Academy Year 1 and U16 players !

Lankshear dropped from the England U21 squad, Gray and Phillips both called up.

dropped or injured/unavailable, any idea - I thought he had been captaining E u17 so a big drop if not injured/unavailable.

Has Upson had been preferred to Hardy in any games at Spurs, I thought the reverse if anything ?
Not injured as far as we know, played the full 90 against Bodo U19s and then made the CL bench a few days ago. Would find out on Sunday if he is. Hardy hasn't been perfect so far this season IMO and I think the gap between him and Byfield has got bigger but Upson has been a bit hit and miss in the games I've seen too (aside from his PL2 debut).

6 goals and a clean sheet takes us top of the UEFA Youth League table 🏆

and after all teams have played 2 games we are still top on 6 points on a combination of GD +8 and goals scored (11).

The 36 club table is quite skewed though with the
- top 9 teams on 6 points
- Next 5 teams (down to 14th position) on 4 points (ie each have won one game)
- bottom 1 0 teams have 0 points (including Woolwich, Newcastle and our next opponents Monaco).
