But not this season?

Villa's winner yesterday was the second time this season we conceeded a second half goal.

Us and Woolwich were the only ones who had conceeded only one second half goal.
Defensively he has got us looking a lot better, both Villas Shots on target yesterday were from outside the box and they scored with both , this is also without Romero - I think though he needs to release the handbrake a bit as we just look disjointed and apart from long throws it seems all we do is try to get the ball to Kudus.
Still we had a fair few chances yesterday, its just we couldn't finish our dinner , I'm a big fan of Sarr and think its crazy how little he has played, also Bergvail - our run of games now will be a big test for Frank.

You are providing nothing constructive and dismissing any evidence being sent your way. If Frank finishes midtable (assuming we don't win any cups too), then its been a shit season by all metrics.

Our standards should be higher than Brentford!

5th isn't "midtable".

When did Brentford ever finish 5th?

Stop with the disingenuous melodrama FFS.

He was obviously talking about the texture of the game, how tight it was, two fairly evenly matched teams, both pressing high resulting in a lot of turnovers. The defenses largely negating the forwards because both of the defenses were better than the opposing forward lines.

He obviously wasn't talking about the result.

Can we not start agendas about every manager that comes through the door?
They're not going to stop, unfortunately.

It's very sad.

think the reality is that our attackers are pony, we have some good players, a lot of average, and some pony. until that changes we wont be competing for anything.

kudus looks to be our best forward, if hes the best, then the reality is you aint going to compete with the very best sides, thats the cold hard truth.

Yes, you are right.

But it is Franks job to utilize the options that we have right now. He did not do it yesterday in my eyes at least.

The fanbase of this club activley plays a part in holding it back.

Its unreal.

I slate the club plenty but I like to think I slate them fairly when they aren't putting in a shift. I call bullshit.

Yesterday we played well yet the stadium still erupted into boos at the end which was the loudest we had been all afternoon.
It was embarrassing.

Is it any wonder we are ranked amongst the most deluded, entitled and worst fanbases in the top flight by neutrals?

Didn't really think the performance yesterday was too disappointing or as bad as some make out. We limited Villa to mainly long range efforts, unfortunately two of them came off.

We do lack a centre forward and LW. When the ball gets into the final third we just are not good enough, especially with holding it up. Honestly, I know this is old news but makes you realise how good Kane was at that compared to our strikers now.

Villa are a good side, I felt a draw would have been fair. Guess it's frustrating that after scoring early we didn't really do anything after that bar a few half chances.

The booing has been a joke for years.

It seemed to start with Conte, I remember his first game against Leeds and there were boos at half time.

It's embarrassing and you are right, the fans are to blame. Don't get me wrong, we have some amazing fans but the ones that boo should really question their 'support' because it does not help anything.

We have among the best away fans in the league. They sing even when we are getting pumped.

Home fans are a fucking disgrace and I would actually say probably the worst in the league right now.

Club needs to address it somehow as its costing us on the pitch.

Our performances dipped when we started to rest Sarr. Up to then we had looked rock solid in central midfield with the trio of Palhinha-Bentancur-Sarr.

I know, it doesn't look sexy at all, but that's just the feeling i got, our performances slumped when we broke up that trio.

Bergvall and Xavi are just boys. And wouldn't be fair on any of them too expect they would fill Madders shoes.
Yeah good point. It feels like we've been outfought in midfield since we removed Sarr. His legs are badly missed.

The problem is that its such an uninspiring midfield in terms of trying to dominate teams and win games. But if Frank just wants to set us up to be hard to beat then he should just be starting Sarr. I think he's trying his best to become a more attacking coach by using Simons in the 10 but the balance has just been all wrong so far. The gaps in midfield are glaring

I love Sarr more than 90% on this board I think. I defended him in the end of last season when before EL final there actually were number of people here calling him "pointless", "average" and everything else along these lines.

But right now I do not agree with you guys at all. First of all, he has been struggling with injury and been in really-really poor form lately. He missed Brighton game (unused sub) and it was said it was because of injury issue. Then he did play 69 minutes against Bodo and was really very bad there. So I do think that he is very important part and could very well be part of our best midfield setup. But not in that kind of form. He has to get back to his best.

And even then I think we could use him instead of Bentancur, not in addition to him. In perfect world, if we play Palhinha (which we should do 80% of the games) we'd need someone with better passing range than either of them.

His presser is boring AF, just like our play. The transcript of his presser sounds inspiring at times, but he sounds totally nothing like that.
His first sentence, 'I think the way the game end out was exactly how we expected it to be'. Wtf? He expected a loss straight away?
You need to clean your ears out maaaate. Thats not what Frank said in his presser at all.

"I think the way the game panned out was exactly how I expected it to be..." He's talking about the way the two teams played, not the result, you div.

Let's be honest here - yesterday Frank fucked up really badly.

We started game well, but already by end of 1st half we dropped off. Play became too slow and sluggish.

It was clear that we needed to change something and be more front-foot.
At HT pause I said to my mates in local FB group that he needs to bring on Bergvall for Bentancur sooner rather then later. And then he just had two players standing there for minutes upon minutes... until we conceded the goal and Villa clearly sank even deeper. Wtf?

It happens that your first picks don't work. Like so clearly Bentancur and Odobert did not. Why not make amends and bring Bergvall and Kolo Muani on sooner?

Really hope he learns fast.
To be 3 without a win at home when we've played against Bournemouth, Wolves and Villa is extremely bad. 3 games and 1 point?!? Unacceptable.

I think when we go forward and at least until some players return, we should adjust the system.

-------------Vicario/Kinsky ---------
------Romero--Danso---VDV-------
Porro---------Palhinha------Spence
----------Bergvall-----Xavi-----------
------------Kudus-Kolo Muani-------

That will help with number of things -
- can push fullbacks higher and get them much more involved in attacking (Spence yesterday hardly contributed) and passing patterns too
- have two players centrally whose main job is to build attacks and progress the ball
- have our best forward player more centrally and in more influential area; as things stand now, and looking at his dribbling ability I do think he could create something in these tighter areas too. Certainly it will be more useful than putting in crosses to backpost for Odobert who will not score even once from 1000 crosses put in
- so it will also allow us to start without Odobert. Cause yea- he is currently best option to LW but that tells more about his competitors than about him. I do think that he has some potential going forward but right now he offers absolutely nothing at all. Yes, he can dribble and even change direction while running. But he is unable to score, cannot fire in a cross and cannot pass the ball in logical way. He is just not top 10 material RIGHT NOW. He has played 468 minutes for us this season. And all he has to show is one assist against League Two side. In EPL he has 1166 minutes, 1 goal and 0 assists for us. That is zero impact and we cannot carry passengers. Just to be clear - I do not hate him. Just right now he should not be starting player for us - his contribution to game is not even close to needed levels.
