Who is pining for Ange? Not me. I'm just pointing out that, like I warned all last season, the bloke was probably overachieving with the squad at his disposal and that getting rid of him wasn't going to magically improve us. Because our squad is meh.

But pretending that loss to Palace last season was "equally fucking shocking" to the recent Chav and Scum games then I'd politely suggest you're lying to yourself.

You’re being perfectly reasonable except for the overachieving bit. That’s just silly. You can definitely argue it first season, second season it unravelled. There is no excuse for 38 points - it gets you relegated in many seasons.

The trophy win was lovely but with a shitload of context and fortune thrown in, it wasn’t a case of punching above weight. We didn’t slay any dragons to win that cup. It was very big in terms of ‘spurs don’t win stuff’ but very not big in terms of on field managerial accomplishments.

It was basically get past Frankfurt to get to a final because AZ Alkmaar and Bodo are not serious opponents for any prem side; certainly not one with our budget. Bodo have spending relative to Wrexham.

Feel free to put up the numbers 🤷‍♂️
The results speak for themselves. We'll be better off in the league because Frank is a better coach. We've won no less against Woolwich and chelsea so far than we did under ange. So let's give frank 2 years and see if he can atleast muster a point vs either of them. I stated at the start of the season We'll be better off overall because Frank is a better coach but with this team it still won't be great.

He's got work to do to prove himself but I trust over the season he'll come up with a bit more than it's who we are mate or we gotta go out and play our football. Unless we go in to absolute free fall and end up somewhere near where we was last season he should get a season atleast. Calling to sack him because you (not you personally) didn't want the last manager sacked is ridiculous imo.

Anyway - while the Ange Derangers continue to cocoon themselves against reality, normal fans should try and understand what is happening and where we might go from here.

Frank is NOT a bad manager. He's a very very competent manager. He's dealing with a meh squad and injuries upfront so his answer has been to bypass midfield, stop playing football and rely on our strength (Back 5) to even up the contest.

It's not working. Clearly. Our offensive numbers are... catastrophic. And we are no better defensively than last season.

I worry that, rightly or wrongly, the players don't like him or his football and are pissed off that they won a European trophy and yet now are being told they are shit and have to play shit football just to survive.

How do we get out of this rut? The only answers seem to be to play football. I tend to agree but we have to accept that this comes with risk and and we might get turned over quite brutally in some games. But this might be a price worth paying to see some green shoots of actual football on the pitch?

Whats an ange deranger?

  • Conceding 4 in a game where you effectively played a back 7 in particular
and
  • Setting all the wrong records in through balls and some other metrics related to open play because you are so afraid of turning the ball over in dangerous areas, and still being 16th in xGA and 8th in GA for the season
are huge indicators that you're getting beaten at your own game right now.

Regardless of whether or not his job is in danger, he needs to think long and hard about some of the most fundamental aspects of his current approach: Player selections, team shape, pressing schemes and whatnot.

Doubling down on whatever this football is won't magically fix anything.

There is no perfect manager but it seems as if many think there is one. Glasner isnt perfect, Iraola isnt perfect and whoever else is being considered isnt perfect.

We had Ange for two seasons, one of if not the most inept manager the PL has ever seen. A few seem to have been in a deep coma of how successful he has been at Nottingham. The ownership and including his managerial style here created a clusterfuck of a squad, atmosphere and ethic.

Frank will need months to fix this. Half of the current squad is not up for PL standards, let alone CL stands. There is a handful of decent footballers and a giant mountain of dross.

Romero isnt the unit you all fucking think he is.
Spence will never be professional enough for this level.
Bentancur speaks for himself.
Johnson is shit.
Richarlison is shit.

These are the players which are not up to it and are long overdue to be sold. A few others are disappointing as well.

And yes the young kids are here but you cant start them in the derby. Embarassing how shit the ones with experience are to be honest. Frank will realize this soon enough.

New manager wont solve shit. The standard of this squad is laughable BUT Ange probably made them even worse during his tenure.

We've played 4 through passes this season btw

You're just being silly now. There isn't any world in which that 1-0 away to Palace last season was "worse" than the performances against Chavs (0.15 Vs 3.34) or Scum (0.03 Vs 2.28) in the last month.

Those numbers are objectively the worst we've put up in living memory.

You must stop making deranged statements or you won't beat the "Deranger" charge.
Sky had a stat yesterday showing that we’ve played 392 league games since 2015 or something and the Woolwich and Chelsea games are in the bottom 3 for XG. Over ten years.

I'm happy for Frank to persist with playing one of Bentancur or Palhinha, but I think it's clear that Bergvall has to be partnering one of them.

I know it's a lot to pin all of our seasons hopes on a youngster, but he's the only one with that energy / bravery we need to actually get on the ball in those tight areas and drive forward. At the moment we just can't seem to get up the pitch.

[lineup]
Vicario
Porro Romero VDV Udogie
Palhinha/Bentancur Bergvall
Kudus Xavi Odobert/Tel
Muani
[/lineup]

This is what we need to see more of going forward.

Yeah agree with that basis for a line up. It's one of Bentancur or Palhinha, the latter more away from home.

But Bergvall and Xavi have to play. We need more mobility, bravery and passing ability on the ball. Those two can take the ball on the half turn and progess us up the pitch

Frank has to start doing this, absolutely imperative that he makes us better on the ball through midfield.

We all know that's the problem.

Vicario

Porro
Romero
VDV
Udogie

Palhinha
Bergvall
Xavi

Kudus
RKM
Odobert

Just stick to that largely and get some attacking impetus back and let them build understanding on the pitch

Way too early to bin the manager regardless of what our performances have been like.

The squad is absolute horse shit - there are a handful of players that are worth keeping but until we can address the fact that our midfield options are awful and bring in players who can receive the ball under pressure, play through the lines and move to become options for a pass then we are fucked.

I don't think Frank tells them to be statues when we have the ball or to pass the ball constantly backwards but Bentancur, Sarr and Palhinha are just too limited and Bergvall and Gray are too raw to determine if they have a future here.

I don’t feel like I’ve got much of a leg to stand on to moan about him as I was one of the ones advocating for him in the summer.

However, I am bitterly disappointed so far with his tenure. I expected more from him
So you're saying that so far his tenure is manure?

Bournemouth (A) 0-1 (0.9-3.5)
Liverpool (H) 3-6 (1.3-5.6)
Palace (H) 0-2 (0.7-3.3)

All terrible performances last season.

For sure. But, you might want to post the teamsheets for the Liverpool and Palace games. :D

The Bournemouth game was a proper trouncing. We still put up .9 xG though (although my website has it as .62 which feels more like my memory of that terrible game)
