Yeah I didn’t like that interview at all.
Haven't seen it, but I can imagine his spirits are raised because he saw that we could have won tonight if the players hadn't, largely, handed PSG every goal they scored.

Where we crafted our own.

His quiet concern was the fundamentals of competing, which, I suspect, he had become critically concerned about after scum game.

Tonight he saw they can actually seriously cut it against pinnacle opponents -- in the CL, mind -- and just has to smooth out the rough edges and build in more alertness and responsiveness to certain situations.

So, he's relieved that that competitive core is actually well and truly there -- after having serious doubts -- and they fully responded to him and his instructions/game plan and sustained it until the final whistle.

Regardless of the gifted goals, that's a big boost in the larger scheme of things.

I'd be feeling more hopeful, too.

I saw a lot of good things out there tonight.

And I bet the players are kicking themselves for helping PSG score those goals after all the hard work they put into that game.

That’s not what I said at all but you carry on. The players are so mentally fragile, they’ve proved that for years, individual mistakes tonight aren’t on the manager, it’s no different to how they defended so badly last season. Not exactly rocket science.

A lot of this squad were basically taught that it's ok to lose 26 games over a season.

A top level team needs to be allergic to losing, and only micky seems to be of that mindset.

I get the feeling some players like Romero have more of "it doesn't matter if we lose" thing about them

For sure.

But to be honest, none of our supposed experienced stars would either. It's proper unreal how so many overrate Porro, Micky, Romero, Bentancur, Richy...ENIC are buzzing when they see fans in love with pure mediocrity.
Id sell all three and VDV isn't the god somethink. I think right now he is as well rounded a defender as either of Palaces centerbacks Lecorix or Guehi and he isn't better week in week out than Tabsoba the other left center back we were linked with. Id obviously keep him but he has a load left to learn. He's nowhere near Vertonghen Alderweireld and he's light years off Ledley King. We need to STOP overestimating our team.

sick team america GIF

ok

I've said it on here a few times, but people need to decide whether they want to take as shorter route to sustained success as possible (akin to a Chelsea model) or are willing to ride through the pain for the next 5-8 years sticking by the Manager whose going through a lot of turbulence in the early stages.

If we don't have the patience for it, then just keep hiring and firing until we luck out.

Yeah I didn’t like that interview at all.

I felt the same. Sounded so small time. I get trying to put a positive spin on things, but crowing about conceded 5 goals. The bloke still sounds like he's managing Brentford.

I am sorry to say, the guy does not look or sound anything close to a elite manager or a manager that should be in charge of a big club.

You would never see Conte, Jose or even Poch act like that after conceding 5.

Tottenham boss Thomas Frank, speaking to TNT Sports: "I am very pleased with the performance.

We just conceded five fucking goals you moron... Jesus Christ... someone please take the microphone away from him...

I've never seen a manager of any team that just shipped five goals open his interview with I am very pleased with the performance. Even if he just said pleased, it would be a little bit better but he went with very pleased... honestly is that our ceiling. Getting dicked by the elite clubs.

I would have given him this game if he hadn't just tried to gaslight the fanbase once again. Just say it was better but still short of the what we are striving to be.

Easy... Chav model please. I'm not sure I'm gonna live for another 5-8 years.

My mate from Amsterdam told me the other day that VdV is your typical Dutch footballer (or Dutch lad in general)...thinks he's God's gift to mankind, has a proper boner about himself, looks down on other people. Basically an obnoxious, self-absorbed twat. And was like that already when playing for a shite team in Holland. My mate says he hates listening to his interviews when on NT duty, that he's proper cringe...even more so than Van Dijk.

That's why despite having produced outrageously good footballers over the past so many decades, the Netherlands never won zilch. Cause the egos of guys like Van Persie, Robben and now Xavi & Micky are always getting in the way. Same thing England had with Ferdinand, Terry, Gerrard, Beckham, Rooney...

Really?
How interesting.
One of your mates summed up every single Dutch player?

Also, why the need to constantly big up the opposition and their players... its cringe... yes, they are fucking good, but maybe try giving our players a lift instead of telling Vatinha he is getting his vote for ballon dor.
I was pretty calm after the game but I hear him talk and I just think FUCK OFF you gaslighting cunt.

He's not pleased at us conceding 5 goals.

He's pleased with the intention, attitude and application of our game as a whole.

Not the lapses that led to the goals.

Those can be fixed.

The key thing is his faith in the player's ability to dig down and compete.

That's what he was looking for tonight.

Against the best team in the world in their home ground.
