Player Cristian Romero

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

His A game is miles better than Danso but his average? Not sure so sure.
At CB you need consistently good not WC one week Non league the next
Listen mate, I like Danso a lot as a person and he gives everything on the pitch, but he’s not defender for this level.
Romero has flaws, but let’s not act like he’s our biggest problem. I wish we had same level of players as him around the pitch. He’s not world class CB, but he’s good defender.
He had a shitshow tonight, that happens. Some 18 year old kid isn’t better than him, come on now.

Hopefully Voskovic can be that guy.

IMHO Romero with his faux hard man image and ability (usually) to play the ball gives the illusion he is much better than he is, but if you break down his game he has massive holes in what you predominantly want from a defender ie being able to defend.
Its either Vuskovic and Micky to build upon which can be rough at the beginning or somebody new with PL experience. Not any other league but PL proven.

And as for Romero you are absolutely correct. His flaws are concerning. The necessary attributes for a defender are not present with him. And I am not ranting because of the performance today, he hasnt upped his game since his arrival. The same issues have persisted for a few seasons.

Unfortunately I dont see him dropped or beinf upgraded soon. It will be a tough season having to rely on him.

Im just trying to go into detail as much as possible because there is this perception about him being world class while objectively he is hurting the team in so many occasions.

had a poor game tonight but people blaming him for that goal either have an agenda or do not understand the game!

sarr shows for the ball, sarr also has a simple one touch square pass to bentancur, which is the correct thing to do and we are away, instead he tried to control the ball! thats on sarr and maybe bentancur as he should be screaming for the ball first time too!

3:36...romero does what hes supposed to do in that situation, he has fuck all on as they have squeezed up. a good side plays a simple one touch triangle there and they are off!

Romero epitomises the club.

Flatters to deceive.
He's the most overrated player at the club tbh. Constantly hear people on Spurs podcasts say he's world class, our best player, etc, but he blows way too hot and cold for my liking. He's capable of excellent line-breaking passes, but he doesn't do it consistently and sometimes his passing is outright dreadful. He can be an excellent front foot defender, but he has pretty regular brain-farts, lapses in concentration, loses his man, etc.

I guess on peak form he probably is our best player but how often do we see that? 30-40% of the time? At most? He's definitely better for Argentina than he is for Spurs, that's for sure.

I think that's an accurate assessment.

Of course playing for Argentina is less frequent, so consistency in big one-off games is more likely, but the very very best can deliver top performances all year round.

Romero is not in that top billing in my opinion.

And as our captain, it's not an example that Frank should be happy with.
