Ex-Spurs Player Brennan Johnson

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

Yeah I think we should pack the midfield. While Johnson is here why not try and use his best attributes which are finishing and pace. He might be good playing as part of a two so putting him up against most CBs, would be ok as long as he doesn't have to fight for the ball, but rather needs balls to chase onto. It's at least going to give other teams something to consider being unable to push up with the risk of balls over the top vs his pace. We'd need to be canny and have him stand near to the slowest CB.

It's not going to work against teams that park the bus, and it won't work unless there's a midfielder who can actually pick out the pass. Which is another problem we have, we're not a good passing team.

I bet if Harry Redknapp was manager he's have tried it.

Hahha, again - I understand what you say but not sure I agree with that :D .

I surely do agree that this would be best way to utilize Brennan (+ in moments we play positional attack he should be arriving to the box and back post late). But when already playing with just 2 forwards I would really prefer the 2 being better all around players. So Kudus, Kolo Muani and I'd even say Tel and Richie would overall offer more.

Plus mostly the teams defend against us quite deeply.

We create literally no tap ins for him to tap away. Our entire reliance is on stuff like Kudus beating 2-3 men.

I have no idea why anyone would think putting Brennan in (at the expense of Kudus?) for the non existent service he will be getting. Kudus is the only one creating anything in open play!

He can’t do anything else. We have insanely low xG. You service him with high xG chances or he doesn’t exist.

I like BJ a hell of a lot more than you (not hard mind you! :D ) but it's mind-numbingly obvious that there's no place for him in a Thomas Frank side - for all the reasons you outline.

And it seems obvious to Brennan imo - as he's completely checked out even when he does get on the ground. Frank would have to completely change his approach to accommodate him and he's not going to do that and rightly so.

Model saying that Villa, Palace and Bournemouth are all interested in Johnson

And you can bet if Emery bought him. Johnson would score goals and look better.

A really badly maligned player.

As always we will find out, unless Frank leaves before him.

If Frank and in other words we were doing better. I would understand the stance but we are far from playing in any manner that suggests selling Johnson makes us a stronger unit.

As a club we just don't know what we are doing.

so you reckon he ain't leaving us then?
Thats Good Robert Deniro GIF

He’s been here for 2 and a half seasons, let’s call his transfer £50m for ease. His book value is what, £25m? If we get offered £25m to £30m just take it man.

Please no more loans, just get rid. We've been experts at keeping mediocre players around for too long
Wales haven’t qualified for the World Cup and the manager that doesn’t fancy him is on thin ice.

Not sure how we can ‘get rid’ if he doesn’t want to go.
I don’t see any other team overpaying for him or giving him a pay increase.

He has his uses if played correctly. As I’ve said previously, I don’t see anything more than a loan.
Would happily take £25m if we put it into getting an upgrade at CM or LW.

It really does make me laugh when so many spare Johnson, not because he is such a good player, but this weird construct that we can snap up better players.

And to be clear, better is much better than Kudus in my opinion, who a few posters rave about, but to me is someone who gets nowheare near any of the top 5 sides. End product is atrocious for the positions he gets himself into. Usually just before he loses the ball.

As I keep saying, posters spout but with no specific basis or names that might add value, outside of those players we just can't get, especially one poster, who is absolutely a waste of space.

If Frank's approach (style, format, pattern of play) was working then I could understand letting Johnson go on loan, BUT Frank's approach or system isn't working with the players he has, (chances are he may get 1 or 2 of HIS players in next month) that will not be enough to keep playing this way (what if the new players get injuried back to square 1)
Frank needs to change that could mean playing 2 up front, (right away johnson is should be 1 of these 2 players, he can score fromballs played between CH's)

I keep seeing this thing that Wales/Rob Page have dropped him and don't rate him.

He played 90 mins in their last game, scored and assisted. He's played in all of their last 5 games, but was only a sub against Belgium and Liechtenstein.

Regardless, I'm not sure how that translates to him being dropped or not fancied by the manager. Just a really odd assessment
