Because on the rare occasions you stop obsessing over our former manager and policing people's opinions of him, you have interesting things to say?

It isn't policing people's opinions at all - it is adding balance and fact.

I don't go around shooting down the nonsense candrews and harry7 seem to post about the guy. I only take exception to people trying to brainwash the forum into pretending we spent 2 seasons seeing something different - or, especially, that we should revisit what has been a deconstruction of the club below the lowest levels of the 90s in terms of league performances.

I wasn't posting on here under the previous manager.

You say there isn't a balanced view presented, but I'd argue the opposite.

The things people are using to criticise the current manager, right here and now, were absolutely the same under the previous manager. That is why there are people like myself defending that point - it is like being tricked into defending Frank because of the martyrdom that is being applied to the previous manager.
If you were posting on here, would you have defended Ange against the same avalanche of criticism he was receiving last season?

I think most people who criticise Frank were also criticising Ange in a similar vain but your posts always feel like they take a position that any criticism off Frank is laced with a nostalgic longing for Ange. It simply isn't the case and the only martyrdom is the one you've created in your head.

Nobody really wants him back but in hindsight, if this is what we sacked Ange for then I really don't see the point. We are no better off and if you accept both parties have faced a similar level of challenges then I could argue we are slightly worse off.

I want people to defend Frank. I want to hear how this is going to change but don't do it by parlaying it with attacks on the previous managers record and pretending there is some sort of movement to bring him back.

Not about winning the title, but he just "didn't understand" the rivalry, and was quite insulting in his appraisal of spurs fans cheering the concept of Woolwich not winning the title. It was under the guise of "I just want to win every game"

Next thing you know, he's claiming to be not bothered about winning league games to he can try to reach a cup final.

It was a contradiction then and is now. You either understand why winning one league is not important in the bigger picture, or you don't. Can't have the cake and eat it with that. Meanwhile, the whole thing was about a 'winning mindset', but what we turned into was a team that was basically told it is ok to lose over 20 league games per season.

What people are interpreting as some amazing mindset is and was just bullshitting the fans. We normalised to losing so much during that period that people are voting that they'd have the same guy back again, losing more than every other game, and not seeing it as an outrage.

Your above Average football fan.

Football was always more of a working man's game for various reasons - turning up after a hard week's work in a worn down post-war life, vent off some cathartic energy laughing, shouting, ranting, fighting, drinking etc. Most of the time it was the players doing it on the pitch, too. You'd probably get beaten to a pulp if you brought up "expected goals" and "expected assists" any time before the 00s.

There are trades out there going through the same thing, where you have mechanics who are now rubbing shoulders with kids who are IT skilled and will want to talk about engineering on their lunch break, instead of tits and kicking cats about.

Ange was shiftless and nothing was ever his fault. He believed his system was infallible, if only the players would execute it perfectly. His statements were universally aimed at shirking any and all responsibility onto the players.

Drawing is better than losing, we are actually making progress, all aligned on the exciting new layer
This is such a funny thing, because drawing instead of losing is better. It's better because you get a point, it's better because it builds a mentality of not losing games.
But at the same time, the way we've drawn some games are on a par with losing. Having dominated Leeds for an hour and then totally surrendered felt like a loss. Having come back from 1 down to lead Man United and draw in injury time, felt like a loss. Almost the same scenario for Newcastle where, at 1-1 we looked like we might get a winner, then conceded again and had to equalise, again.
It's only really the Brighton draw that felt like a positive as we came back from 2 down in a game where we were largely the better side.

Over Frank? Absolutely

Over other quality managers? Not sure at all

Did great in Holland, clearly first season with pool, but wheels falling off now - I'd want to know why I think

We both saw the timid display and losing mentality he sent us out there with against them.

I’m not into the paranoia of him being a plant etc (Vinai, honestly maybe. I wouldn’t put it past them). But you can’t persuade me it was top priority to beat them. We played like a mid table team preserving energy for the next game we could actually win.

Worst NLD performance I can remember.

Worst one since the last one

Who the fuck was having these conversations??

:pochshock:

Drawing on personal experience. I've been adjacent to that trade most of my adult life and worked in a few different places after I left 'that big place in brentwood', and in the dealerships you'd knuckle draggers talking about killing animals or someone's tits, and very little else in-between. The pay in the trade is generally awful, so you don't exactly get Ted talks from academic minds.

I got into reading books purely because it was a more interesting way to burn through a 1 hour break than listening to all that.

West Ham fans. Should have guessed. They have form in kitty abuse.

What's balanced about anything you said? Balance would be, one won us a trophy, one has turned us prehistoric.

For what it's worth, both are fucking awful. But if I'm going to watch us lose or draw every week, I'd rather it not be cruel and unusual punishment to watch.
