Transfers The Winter Transfer Thread - 25/26

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

When we did West Ham 4-3 at Upton Park with Staltieri scoring in the last seconds, West Ham were 10 points adrift with 10 games to go - they then won 7 of their next 9 and got the result at Old Trafford that kept them up.

If we can’t win these 2 games then who can we beat?

Stop burying your head in the sand - we’re really shit

Okay man to man do you think West Ham are capable of winning 7 games out of 9 despite only winning 3 games out of 21 this season?

You're doing too much, just like last season, people thought we were getting relegated and you'd probably have more of a case anyway but if you think we're in relegation trouble this season then you just need to lay off the unhappy pills, we're shit but we're dogged and can grind out results better than the teams below us, West Ham got battered by Wolves and gave them their first win of the season ffs

At the moment no

Lose the next 2 with West Ham also beating Sunderland then yes I believe relegation could happen as all the ingredients are there

While that may be mathematically true, you have:

TeamPlayedPoints
Palace2128
Spurs2127
Bournemouth2126
Leeds2122
Forest2121
West Ham2114
Burnley2113
Wolves217

To even get to match our current points total, Burnley would need 14 points from the next 17 games. That's more than double what they've had from 21. Wolves would need 20 points from their last 17.
West Ham would need to double their 21 game points haul in the last 17.

Even if West Ham beat us, that's still Forest and Leeds needing an uptick in form.

30 points is probably safe from relegation this season

(note that people have quite liked the managers from the teams either side of us)
Agreed, but could you imagine how the Jan 24 version of yourself might have reacted to being told that the best we could hope for in Jan 26 was to take comfort from the fact we probably won't be relegated?

Leeds are in better form than us and have come through their toughest period of the season on paper playing all the top sides - their run in isn’t bad at all.

Barely. In the last 12, we've won 2 and drawn 4 - they've won 2 and drawn 5.

We've played Woolwich, Liverpool, Brentford (twice) , Chelsea, Newcastle and Man Utd. 7 games against the current top 8.
Leeds have played Villa, City, Chelsea, Liverpool (twice), Brentford, Man Utd, Newcastle. 8 games against the current top 8 (not played Woolwich).

After the next 2 - from 31st Jan to the end of Feb - they have a run against Woolwich, Chelsea, Villa, and City.

It doesn't really bear any difference at all to who we've played, our form, or our run in.

Taking a step back, I genuinely think our squad is not as bad as we've all been making out it is. Not a top 4 squad, but a 5th-8th squad, albeit one that is totally demoralised, demotivated, unhappy, and broken as a squad, with no clear direction or tactical identity, playing painful and negative football. Appoint an enigmatic manager who plays attacking football, and sign established senior players - GK, DCM, CF and a LWF - and we can be a major team next season

GK: Vicario / Kinsky
RB: Spence / Porro
RCB: Romero / Danso
LCB: VdV / Vuskovic / Dragusin
LB: Udogie / Davies
DCM: Bentancur / Palhinha
#8: Gray / Bergvall / Sarr
#10: Maddison / Simons
RWF: Kulusevski / Kudus
LWF: Odobert / Tel
CF: Solanke / Muani / Richarlison

Bentancur - April
Kudus - March
Bergvall - Unknown
Maddison - May
Kulusevski - Unknown
Richarlison - Unknown

Genuinely, we are cursed. Football gods saw us win a trophy and decided it payback time

Mate, they did it to us the season before,

and before that

and before that...

We are just plain cursed whatever we do.

Trouble is if you keep chronically injured players around or inexplicably give them new contracts this is what happens. Maddison, Bentancur and Richarlison must have spent more time out than available since they joined us.

Last season there was clearly the three promoted teams going down, no the case this season
Another key thing last season was winning three games on the bounce
Brentford
Manchester United
And Ipswich
Without those, it would have been a lot closer

'Spurs step up interest in Gallagher with Bentancur out for three months'

Tottenham want to sign Atletico Madrid midfielder Conor Gallagher, according to football.london, who are also reporting Rodrigo Bentancur is out for at least three months with a hamstring injury.

It is claimed Bentancur requires surgery on a hamstring injury suffered in last week's defeat at Bournemouth.

The Uruguayan's injury has reportedly made signing a midfielder a priority for Spurs this month, with Lucas Bergvall also sidelined with injury.

Spurs have reportedly stepped up their interest in Gallagher, having been long-term admirers of the player.

Sky Sports News reported that Aston Villa, who beat Spurs in the FA Cup third round on Saturday, are exploring a deal to sign Gallagher.

Atletico are not keen for him to go on loan unless there is a permanent aspect to the deal that is obligatory - and they want a fee that is close to what they paid for him.

He joined from Chelsea in the summer of 2024 for £38m.

What I took from that is my comment about them being in better form is true - additionally, why the last 12 games? Is it because if it was the last 6 then it looks even more favourable for Leeds?

How does a progressive passer help yesterday in the first half when the instructions were to just boot the ball in the air from back to front. One player is not making a difference to the defensive cowardly tactics.

Yes Stiller would be perfect if we had Xavi as manager, but not for Frank
A progressive passer. Helps immensely.but on their own doesn’t change the game for us. We need steel too as we are like butter in the middle of the park. And we need proven PL goalscorers/assisters
