This is true ,but he had no interest in joining us . The question is why has he agreed to come this time , Poch or a desire to come back to London . I have no idea , I know what I’m hoping though

I suspect the reality of being cast away by Chelsea took a while for him to process and accept. He’s gone through a reforging of his identity following the death of his naive Chelsea linked identity, and now he’s someone else, someone open to and interested in the idea of playing for Spurs.

I’m sure he also likes being back in London and suspect he thinks he is a strong enough figure to help turn us around and self-actualize himself here. It’s a great story arc and I’m glad we’ve gotten him one way or another…

With the injuries we had he was the right signing .

Agree- the injury to Bentancur made it look better in retrospect but it was still a useful move. Souza also was a desperately needed depth option at LB/LWB, even if he is young and inexperienced.

Gray being flexible at CM, RB, and CB as well as Palhinha being flexible at CM and RCB is really keeping us together right now.

They did about the bare minimum in the winter window. One attacking signing would have been ideal but moving to a back three shortens the attacking rotation and solves that issue, so to speak…

Not necessarily chavs may have insisted he goes abroad?
Think there was v.likely some kind of PR element to it from both Chelsea and Gallagher that window. I reckon if there wasn't for the club rivalry Gallagher would've ended up a Spurs player that summer.

Just felt like the optics of selling a fan favourite and regular captain to their most hated rivals made it a difficult deal to sign off, especially as the fans were v.pissed at the owners around then after they binned off Poch. Not to mention it would've made Gallagher a bit of a Judas figure at the club. I reckon Gallagher was probably quite keen on some level and many within Chelsea didn't give a toss, but I've got no doubt it was a factor that summer.

With the buffer of Atletico, Gallagher won't be half as hated at Chelsea as he would've been if he'd come directly.

I don't like it, would have been far better to loan him.

Next season we are potentially facing an issue of a 40-45 game season and we have a load of 8's that will be stepping on each other's toes:

Gallagher
Sarr
Gray
Bergvall
Bentancur
Bissouma

Presumably Bentancur and Bissouma will be sold that still leaves for 8's who need mins and need to play, how is it going to work especially if we are playing 1 game a week?

It’s called competition and rotation. Without European football you still need 2 on the pitch and 2 on the bench. You need at least 4 just to cover a matchday when all are fit. One gets injured and you’re down to bare bones.

Competition and rotation? at least 4 players to play in one position???

Less risk of injuries next season as well as we are playing 1 game a week.

Presumably as well this club dares to pull it's finger out and sign a 6 who passes the ball or actually keeps Palhinha, how are you fitting 2 of these players on the pitch at the same time?

I was assuming we were playing 2 at once in a double pivot. If we sign 2 x DCMs (to replace Palhinha and Bissouma) then of course we'd only need 2-3 #8s.

A clear out and lots of loans

I dont advocate us not being in europe, but given where we are as a club right now - that might not be the worst thing next season

Say we get Poch in (or Iraola, or anyone else with a proper system) - it will take time for them to bed their football in

Averaging one game a week, with all that added time on the trianing field, could be gamechanging in this respect

It does mean, however, we'll need a good 15 players, basically, and thats it. Itll be a really focussed 11 and some rotation options.

A good opportunity to really gut all the bloat in the squad, and refocus it around the new managers.

Id suggest that would include selling some players we as fans would rather keep too.

Yeah unfortunately I think Sarr will need to be cut, shame because I think he would be great under Poch but we've pretty much fucked his career at this club and really haven't given him much of a platform to improve, leaves Gallagher, Gray and Bergvall.

This is the stupidity of buying Gallagher and giving him a long contract with high wages, it means you have to play him regardless.

Just 15 is madness.

Well still want to go full pelt in the domestic cups and inevitably face injuries.
