Player Archie Gray

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

Really good last night but as usual everyone is going way overboard
Maybe that's just to counter the amount of people who have been going way overboard in criticising him recently?

Or are we just not allowed to get excited and praise a teenager for having a great game anymore?
(And it's not just the one game either, is it? He's been showing what he's capable for a while now but is settling into the role and becoming more assured).

Disagree that we wasted his development

Playing FB and CB was always going to help a young player understand the different positional requirements of the game.

Watch Gray last night, he covers the defense everytime a player gets caught out and then knows how to play that position whilst he’s covering them
It's what happens throughout academy football, the youngsters get shifted around several positions.
It's what developing a well-rounded footballer is all about and we have to remember how young Archie has been through his time with us.
By rights, at his age he'd still be playing U21's football and his talent (and brain) is the reason he isn't but that does not make him the finished article that some seem to expect.

Sarr was very good last night.
I've got to say that neither I nor my son would have said that from watching the game in the stadium, so I guess it was one of those performances that you'd miss if he wasn't there?

I'm going to have to rewatch the game because afterwards we heard people praising Sarr and we were like "what?!" because we thought that he ran around a lot, had a few good moments but didn't really affect the game much.

That just highlights the fact that when you watch a game, it's impossible to see everything that's going on, so it's always worth holding on to that "he's shit" comment for a little bit.

That still leaves Bergvall, Sarr, Gray and Gallagher all vying for the same position as an 8.
Yeah but you are aware of our atrocious injury record though, yeah?
What are the chances of even three of those being fit at the same time? 😉🤣

But I do think that any two of those four can dovetail quite nicely as a pair, especially if Archie does become the more defensive minded as many think he will.
Some of the passes he was spraying about last night were lovely and I do think he's got what it takes to become a deeper, press resistant controller.

Gallagher was a strange signing though.

Rather keep Gray, Bergvall and Gallagher. Think Gallagher has only just walked into this clusterfuck and hasn't been able to show what he needed to, think he needs to be given a proper chance in his preferred position when we're not such a mess (hopefully). Sarr has been here for ages and has never really looked better than average.

I'm ready for most of the players who have been around a while to be cleared out. The club needs a refresh top to bottom.
Keep Gallagher and get rid of Sarr?

Have you seen the difference in their contributions so far?

If youre a good player, people will be able to see your contributions immediately, even in a poor team. In fact, you should be shining in that poor team. But what have you seen in Gallagher that makes you feel that he will shine soon?

Agreed. If we can get £5-£10m for Gallagher in the summer it’ll be worth the financial hit to get him off our books.

The future is Gray and Bergvall. For all the shite Archie’s had to endure the last 2 seasons, logically he’ll come out of this period a stronger player

Bissouma, Bentancur ,Gallagher amd Palhinha can all go imho.Keep Gray, Bergvall and Sarr and get in 2/3 more experienced players. Defensive strengths but with passing ability

I agree we need to keep Gray Bergvall and Sarr. I would Udogie depending his fitness. I also think the club will want to keep Van den Ven. That is a core of young players who have much upside in the future.

I also agree young players need experienced heads around them but I would keep Palinha and Gallagher.

So keeping Gray, Bergvall, Sarr,Palhinha and Gallagher would restrict us bringing in a couple of new midfielders…not enough games for them all now without Europe.

I dont understand the Bentancur hate. Solid footballer with excellent ball control andcan marshal the line above defence well. He just cannot be paired with another DM. Having him, Gray and Sarr /Maddison in midfield would be perfect

Because he seems to always be injured and when he's not injured, he gets a 9 match ban for comments. And between injuries and quasi-racist comments, he throws bottles into the crowd.
He's a liability we could do without.

I haven't seen much, if anything from either of them to be honest.

It's just I've 'not been seeing much' from Sarr for a couple of seasons now, whereas I've only 'not seen much' from Gallagher for a few games.

I'd probably like to get rid of both but if I had to pick one it would be Gallagher.

The club signing the likes of Palinha are why we're in this mess. They're not going to spend money on him, because he's stone useless.

There is so little positive to take from today's game, but Gray was good again. In particular, he's not frightened of hitting long balls, and capable of executing them. Found Tel a couple of times (collected with a perfect killer touch too) - perhaps Archie sitting deep will remove the need for Romero to be the only player capable (sometimes) of doing that, lessening the impact of his probable departure this summer...

Football is such a changing game - a month or so ago I was wondering why we even signed Gray, now I'm honestly not far off making him captain, well maybe in a season or so (it would be unfair on him to do that before then).

He might not be here next year if we go down. He’s now probably one we can sell and get our money back. A few others we definitely won’t.

The pass to Tel in the first half was absolutely outstanding. Didn’t deserve to lose today. Btw, Sangare on him was absolutely a red.

There’s no chance Gray plays Championship football next season.
