Player Cristian Romero

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

From today's presser:

He spoke with the medical staff. Together they decided to go to Argentina to complete the rehab with the Argentinean medical staff. We spoke last week. With me he showed always his desire to stay with us. He is injured. I'm not stupid. If I understand there is any player who thinks for himself before the club, I can't be the same Roberto. But with Cuti Romero I can't say nothing because with me he has been correct from when I started until now.

Roberto De Zerbi if he understands why Spurs fans are so unhappy with Cristian Romero and he said "100%."

He also said on the Spurs skipper: "Not all leaders are the same. Ben Davies spoke with me and he asked to stay today with us and he wants to stay with the team in the Lodge in the hotel with his team-mates, but Romero is preparing for the World Cup.

RDZ started off with a polite comment but obviously he is drawing quite a clear comparison with Ben. A player who actually has the right character to captain this club.

The quote on Davies is extremely revealing. "Not all leaders are the same" is pretty much as much of a mug off he can say about Romero without directly laying into him. He's obviously being as diplomatic as possible, but pretty clear RDZ is not impressed with Romero wanting to go back to Argentina.

Anyone blaming the club for this is way out of line here. It is all on Romero and his priorities and his character.

Absolutely nobody with any sense of responsibility as a leader would even ask to go back to Argentina at this time. Let alone a captain. It beggars belief really.

The reality is that Romero shouldn't have even engaged in discussion about returning to Argentina, injured or not. He should have turned around and said no chance, I am here with my teammates. He could have even delivered a rousing speech to the team as captains can do. There are millions things he could have done, but what is not on, is him fucking off to Argentina.

He could have literally gone on Monday after the game. But no, he obviously wants to go back for the cup final in Argentina. He's very clearly turned around and said I don't really care about Spurs.

He's a cunt end of.

Either way you look at it, Davies and Romero can't play... They're only here to offer (or not offer) moral support...

The reason Maddison has been used as "cheerleader" from the bench is there has clearly been a chance he could and has now played some minutes....

Deki's probably just glad to be alive!

Everything about this season has been chaotic, shit, over scrutinised and gone against us...
Why should the final few days of the season be any different, and break the tradition of the last season or two?

This is bollocks.

What he's doing speaks for itself.

And it is in no way "correct".

I'll 'llow Zerbi tho, as he's not trying to make that the focus for this crucial game.

I get it.

But as fans we have to express how unacceptable this is.

We just can't have it, or let it be seen as something a captain, especially, can do here and get away with.

No fucking way.

Players take libs enough as it is.

And anyone thinking he ever has is an absolute mug.

Makes me laugh thinking back to how Marcus Edward's attitude was questioned and his whole character assassinated simply for being a young, black male with a nice car he proudly took a selfie with and happened to have rubbish in the footwell.

Then you see this cunt.

This is why you keep the likes of Ben Davies around.

Why you bring in the likes of Andy Robertson.

Less we become the Btec Real Madrid with unmanageable out of control egos.

Ben Davies is a proper Spurs legend.
He may never have been the greatest of players but he's as loyal and committed as they come.

It's all playing out exactly like those could read between the lines about him have expected.

On a team, it'll almost always be better to have a committed character rather than an unenthused but brilliant one.

My only wish is that the club had figured this out and moved him on before it came to this- an embarrassing and demoralizing moment at a time of extreme need for the club.

Sad his tenure here is to be marked by shame and disgrace like this.

Seems apparent he's played his last game in our shirt.

If Brobbey weren't such a dirty player things would have taken a very different road. Strange.
Would they though? Romero has let us down so many times, it's pretty likely he would have got sent off or picked up a suspicious 'niggle' to ensure he stays fit for the world cup etc, I doubt he'd have played the last few games of the season anyway. The guy's a selfish cunt. Basically a player version of Conte.

Thank you, Glenn.

And perfectly put: "absolutely scandalous".

Some of our fans need to give their fucking head a wobble on this.
I'd like to wobble Vinai's head.... Right off his fucking shoulders!!

I'm sure he means well and talks sense, but (apart from Hoddle & occasionally Ginola) I WISH our pro-Spurs media voices weren't from such average players as Gary Stevens, Jamie Redknapp & O'Hara, Ramon Vega, Mido and Tim Sherwood!!
Or does that say more about the dearth of talent we had a generation ago, who are now retired, and stuck for something to do??

Yeah, we'd have a FIT Romero flying off to Argentina to watch his boyhood club!! Imagine THAT?!!

We would have been better off starting Ben at LCB than any Dragusin start, and probably most Danso LCB starts. Disappointing that so many of our coaches got it so wrong in that regard- Ben certainly deserved to have more games and minutes the past few seasons.
