Player Mathys Tel

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

He's good enough to be a squad player and can cover left wing and up front as the 3rd choice.

I would keep Kudus as the right wing starter and Solanke and Tel as rotational options.

Xavi probably won't be registered first half of the season and doubts over Odobert and Kulu as well.

--------------------New (Solanke)------------
New(Tel)-------------------------------Kudus(new)

Thats what the front 3 should be imo with Kulu as the 7th option to those 6 above.

When the club talk about ‘footballing outcomes were not driving our decisions’, look no further than Tel.

We got him because it was easily structured and secured with the owed Kane funds. It wasn’t a footballing decision. It was an economic one.

He’s not good enough. He does simple stuff badly. He’s not going to happen.

Question for me is, if we all admit we do need a first choice LW, do you rather keep Odobert, or Tel, to be their understudy? Or do you bin both and try out Moore, who is less prem-proven than both?

Tel at least can operate as a ST if needed. I still see Tel has a lot to potentially offer to our squad. We just not going to be able to solve all the problems in one window. Rebuilding our squad is a two summer-windows project, at a minimum.

The club are going to have to cut their losses with him.
Its better now than later before his value decreases.
I have not rated him since the Super Cup final where his work rate was poor.
He's a funny one, re selling at a loss. With amortization, if we sold him now, as opposed to a year or two, it'll be for a loss in accounting terms. So I doubt he gets sold this summer unless we get an offer of ~£25m which would break even. I see a loan in his very distant future.

By selling him in a couple of years, even for £20m, it's a £5m profit.

Reckon it was also a classic case of us targeting a player for 3-4 years and signing them just because rather than adapting to current squad needs.

Levy had been chasing Tel since he was a wunderkind at Bayern scoring against us in the Audi Cup. At the time he was one of the most hyped kids in world football.

By the time we actually signed him his development had stalled and Bayern were willing to sell...yet we still acted like we'd secured an incredible coup and couldn't possibly pass it up. He didn't really even have a natural position in the side or a long term pathway to minutes but we just had to sign him based on his former reputation.

Could say similarly about signings like Sessegnon and Gallagher. And Jose as a manager.

I would keep. Whilst the majority of players crumbled with the adversity this season, he didn’t. Always showed up and tried. For those saying he’s shit - he’s still a pup. You put him in the u21s and he’d dominate (as we see with France)

Is that where RDZ sees Gallagher rotating with Madders though?

Maybe MM would be seen as a utility squad player covering left wing and 10?

With our current roster logjam and the fewer games next season, MM is best served going out for another full season loan I think. Gallagher will probably spell Maddison at CAM until Simons can return, at which time hopefully our CAM crisis is over and done with.

Consider him as if one of our youth products and he’s done as well as could have been expected. The price tag is nuts but he was highly regarded.
Generally young players aren’t used when a teams in the shit fighting relegation but he’s been there as first choice and tbh hasn’t been the worst of a front 3 containing 2 seasoned internationalists.
I’ve written him off in the past but tbh he’s done ok since RDZ. Like people have said he should be a squad player and that’s fine.
It’s unfortunate we have Odobert as well - similar profile. He’s had 2 significant injuries now and wasn’t very good to start with.
