Player Cristian Romero

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

We'll probably know fairly soon if De Zerbi wants him gone. Imagine there will either be leaks that "De Zerbi sees Romero as a key part of his project" or, more likely, transfer links to other clubs in the coming weeks.

What to do with Romero is one of the key decisions Roberto has to make this summer and I'm not sure there's a middle ground - you've either got to double down, say he's a key player and keep him as captain, or you tell him to find a new club. Taking away the captaincy but keeping him at the club serves nobody and we'd just end up with a sulky Romero looking to leave anyway.

My guess is De Zerbi probably likes him as a bloke and a footballer, but will feel the need to move him on as a symbolic way of starting afresh. Romero's captaincy represents pretty much everything that went wrong last season: injuries, suspensions, ill-discipline off the field, general chaos. Probably best to just cut loose and get rid off the distractions and drama, even if he does like what he offers on the pitch.

Jay Harris also said on VFTL that Romero's only been available for like 60-odd% of games since he arrived. That alone makes it worth moving him on imo - he's just not available enough to be relied on.

He was injured in the RDZ’s 1st game so no telling what impression he made. All the clickbait stuff about him not bothering with Sunday and then he’s there- we don’t know the truth behind it but safe to say a lot of journalists love to portray him as this rogue anti spurs liability.
If I’m a betting man I think he probably does go this summer but I think it’s far from a guaranteed outcome and likewise won’t be at all surprised if RDZ loves him and he stays.

Clickbait? RDZ said in the pre-match press conference that he wouldn’t be at the game and “100% understood” fan anger. Romero was shamed into coming back, that’s a fact.

After the game when RDZ was name checking the important characters in the squad he didn’t even mention Romero. He again mentioned Ben Davies instead of him. Seems quite clear that RDZ is not counting on him anymore.

Hopefully he has a big World Cup and then we get a big fee.

Constantly injured, suspended, or otherwise making a distraction of himself. Thinks he’s too good for the club.

Immense on his day but how often is that? Maybe once every five matches he’s available for.

I know - I feel exactly the same. I have a great life, and I'm very grateful. Maybe being a Spurs supporter is the cross I have to bear for all the good stuff :)
It’s the other way around!Your good life is the gift for being so brave!

I’ve been one of his supporters here but I’d cut him loose.

I don’t get the feeling he really wants to be here so let him go and move on. You can’t have a captain who gives the impression he doesn’t want to be at the club.

Apparently he has a clause in his new contract allowing him leave for 40 mill

Just a thought.... Would us signing another Argentina CB in Senesi potentially encourage Romero to stay, and form a partnership with him, or likely hasten his departure...?

Or doesn't it make a jot of difference where Senesi is from, as Romero is off regardless...?
