Player Ben Davies

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

If he's got anything about him he'll turn that contract down in the wider interest of the football club that's paid him handsomely these past 10 years and more.
Hell man, this thread should have been moved to general football years ago.
Or...

...that rumoured contract extension is part of a long term plan to keep him at a club he clearly loves and can help improve from the backroom going forward.

Whatever the truth, one undeniable fact is that 'fans' like you don't deserve players like Ben. You beg for players and staff who would do anything for the club and then have this reaction when one does.

I'll say it again for the people at the back...if the rest of the squad had this guy's integrity and attitude, we'd have been nowhere near relegation the past two years.

Hope he's here for years.

Some of our fanbase are fucking weird. Excellent servant to the club, reliable when called upon, professional attitude, good role model for the other members of squad, can play multiple positions, cheap to keep, will probably transition to a coaching role - the idea that Ben Davies signing a contract extension is even in the top 20 of our problems is nuts.

Same fans moaning about him being given an extension will probably be the ones moaning about loyalty when the next half decent player we have is trying to force their way out of the club.

Tbh I don't mind as Davies is clearly a lovely bloke and, I imagine, a top guy to have around the club.

Just a bit odd to extend the contract of a player that at his age will barely see the pitch with Robertson and Senesi taking any minutes he would've otherwise got.

Have we ever extended a player's contract almost exclusively for their off-field influence? Strange choice, but if De Zerbi thinks it's important why not?

No disrespect from me, i've always liked him. The way he keeps his head down, never moans and clearly cares. But come on, he's 34 next season, he's now always injured and if Robertson and Sesesi are true he's just not needed. If we'd have gone down then maybe but we have to start moving some players on from a squad that has had our 2 worst consecutive league finishes in our history.
He never moans because he knows at any other top club he would have been binned by now.

We have a world cup winner that moans because he wants to win.

I know which I want in my team.

Servant of shite for over a decade.

We have a world cup winner who moans because he's a whiny petulant little twerp. If he wanted to win so badly he'd learn how to defend without leaving gaping holes in the back line or without getting sent off regularly.

No problem with him being kept around the club if he's a great guy etc. My problem comes from the likes of last season, where we signed him as a backup left back to an extremely injury prone Udogie in a season where we were playing UCL football.

It was shocking squad building.

Tbf he covered well and probably gave more to the team when he played.

Obviously he was another to fall to the injury curse then.

If the current squad had half of Ben's attitude and professionalism then we'd have been nowhere near relegation the last two years.

The disrespect for him is staggering.
Ffs everyone says we need a rebuild and clear out after finishing 17th twice. Why then keep him on. Offers nothing at FB and at Cb I’m sure we are covered already with Philips and dorrington coming back to add to VDV, senesi , danso and vusko. Just don’t get the mentality of some fans. He has been part of the squad for 12 yrs and look where it ahas got us. Im
Sure there must be loads of players out there who could do a better job than Ben. Poch said we needed new furniture 7 years ago. Some are still shopping in antics roadshow. Is he really gonna take us to
Next level and who
May not even make the bench.

It's not rocket science.

If you're looking at a list of reasons for finishing 17th twice, then Ben is way down the list.

There's a lot more to sort out with the squad and around the club before you get to Ben.

And the fact that all you misery-lovers are failing to grasp is RDZ might feel he actually provides a net positive to the squad. Yes he may not play - although as I've pointed out, when he did play recently he was miles better than most of our other players on the field - but he might be thought of as an actual leader that others can look up to.

I can think of at least 10 players off the top of my head that I'd get rid of this summer before Davies. After that 10 I could probably make a case for a handful more to still go ahead of him.

This new contract is the least of our issues.

Guy is absolute pony and I detest he has been at the club so long. Embodies everything that is wrong with Tottenham. Where mediocrity is accepted
Not pony at all, just because he's not some flashy egomaniac of a player. He's always been a dependable squad player and very rarely let us down. It was probably his swansong season before he got badly injured. His effectiveness is on the wane just because he's getting older and that it would make sense to move on if he wants to continue playing, or go into coaching.

Maybe as 5th CB and 3rd LB its not too bad regarding our injury record. Although, to be honest, this spot should have someone of the youth system. But I fully expect them to get overlooked as ever.
Our academy isn't any good. Don't know why people refuse to accept it.

Aside from Kane, in the past 20 years its produced only a handful of lower table/championship class players.

Ben Davies is the consummate player who plays for the shirt, a great club man who should be kept at the club for his experience and total loyalty to the badge!
For those who criticize him, get a life girls!

Quote to add context: TBF, the PL is miles above any other league now so most academies cannot regularly produce top 4/6 level contributors. England as a whole can only produce a dozen or so in any generation.

Honestly every time a young player of our academy has been given some game time, they did fine enough. Not to be world beaters, but they were fine. Let it be Olusesi or Byfield last season, were they that much worse than the rest? Or Ajayi, Scarlett and Moore before, they were alright. At least they bring some desire and "our own" feeling on the pitch. No one demands them to walk into the starting line up.

We are talking about 5th CB and 3rd LB in a season without Europe ffs.

There were people saying Kane is not good enough but when you have someone trusting the boys, like Sherwood did, you can find someone who is able to step up as I believe a few have the tools. Its also important to show the academy it is possible to get a run out.

He was alright, definitely didn't give more to the team than a fully fit Udogie who provided good running and physicality in the last 7 games under RDZ.

Ben was fine when he played, solid, perfect for Frank who had no ambition of doing anything interesting with his fullbacks anyway. We were a UCL team last season though and the options were not good enough to reflect that.

Ironically we never learned from 2015-2020 when being able to rotate between prime-Ben and prime-Rose was a huge part of our success and constantly left ourselves short at fullback since then.
