I would have major concerns as a manager about my left back, if every realistic opportunity that the opposition had, came from their right wing position, even to the point where their penalty was won off our right back covering in the left back slot at a set piece.
He was positive going forward, as usual - but as a converted winger that's always going to be the case.
In fairness, he had little tangible cover or support from the midfield, which should have materialised when he was evidently out of his depth.
Downing drifted around alot and linked up with Noble thru the middle. Rose was solid and played his part in a clean sheet first match of the season. Kaboul looked far more the weaker link yesterday but yet in still people are looking to have a go at Rose. We played 2 holding mids so they should be covering Rose when he bombs forward. Lastly Downing is actually a good player on his day.

However I thought their pass-and-move football and their forward passing was very good. Nabil gets a bit of stick for passing sideways, but I don't think that's true at all.

No mate, that's not the "fact" with me. Downing was their best player IMO. The fact his teams strikers are shit isn't his fault.
And as for "solid" I don't agree. Rose was OK tbh, I didn't have a problem with him. But solid he was not. Downing did have the better of him, Rose had fuck all to do with the fact Downings efforts didn't get converted into goals for the most part. The only defender I felt happy about yesterday was Dier because he did really well at right back I thought. If someone disagrees with you based on observation and rationale don't arrogantly assume it's because they're desperate for Davies to play.
Not sure why the Downing against Rose issue is continued to be used against him. It was quite clear that a great portion of why "Downing got the better of Rose at times" was because the CM's were not closing on him when we only had 10 men. As such, Rose had to travel a distance to meet him, and at that point Downing had the time to get into an area ten yards or so further that gave him more of an advantage, because Rose couldn't run at a backwards slant that would shut that run from Downing down because he'd then be opening up several yards of space directly behind him for keeping runners onside that he couldn't see. So it's either he is forced to take on an a player from a shit position defensively, or he screws over his entire back line.

I actually thought their best player was the new Gadgy, Kouyate or what ever his name is.

If we had been playing against 10 men since the 29th minute and only had 4 shots on target and had less possession, and lost...i would be going mental..
I would have been screaming for a 2nd striker but that fat Twat was as cautious as ever..
They are so easily pleased.
