Match Tottenham Hotspur v Chelsea (3rd December)

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

I have read absolutely nothing on the board, but just got home from watching the game at the local football pub in San Diego. Let me tell you how fucking awful of an idea that was!

First, it's well known that it draws a big Chelsea crowd, but I legitimately thought we could win this one and I would be able to have a field day shitting on their fans. I was being polite and respectful. There were about five or six yids that showed up (one of them used to play against Eriksen in the Dutch youth system) and even though we're a fairly feisty bunch we were being fairly quite by our standards. The first goal goes in and obviously the place goes mental. They start singing that stupid carefree Chelsea FC bullshit, which I fucking loathe hearing. So I (VERY LOUDLY) sang along with them "please sit down, my wife can't see, we've been coming since 2003. Fuck you Chelsea! Fuck you Chelsea! Fuck you Chelsea!" After that it was like breaking down a dam and I kept singing and having a good time. After I sang Stamford Bridge is Burning Down someone decided that it would be funny if they brought up the Tottenham riots and start going off about how no one should live in such a piece of shit city. I got extremely annoyed and it pretty much made me get as loud as I could and I kept going. Anyway, the bar manager comes up to me out of nowhere and starts yelling saying that if I keep swearing she'll throw me out and give me a lifetime ban. I was about to tell her that it's a football bar and that she might as well kick me out, but I decided to be polite and essentially just sit on my hands. Fuck that was tough.

Anyway, the match. First off, I think that everyone deep down knew that we weren't going to win this one, so I'm not as discouraged as I would have been if this was a different team. Chelsea are beasts and their midfield ran us ragged. I didn't particularly care for the lineup from the get go. In general when Lamela is on the pitch in the Prem we don't play as well as we should. I understand his wanting to play Lennon, as I would have done the same thing off of the last performance, but I think he should have used Chadli instead of Lamela at the very least. Bentaleb played exceptionally and I think that he and Mason together is a fantastic pairing against almost any other team in the league, but it really wasn't a good idea in hindsight. Leaving Soldado off did make sense, however, if you're going to do that play a holding player and not an attacker. The very few times Soldado had the ball when he came in we looked decent and I think that we could have done well today if he had started. Vlad. Oh Vlad, oh Vlad, oh Vlad. Please, if there is anyone we need to get rid of in January it's Chiriches. He probably didn't do a single thing particularly well until the second half. Our lack of a real replacement for Walker is seriously an issue, and if we're lucky we've already solved it with Yedlin, but I can't be too sure as he's completely untested. I thought that Kane put in some serious work at times, and his tackling is looking superb at the moment. Unfortunately, the header he put on the bar wasn't a half foot to the south west of the corner. Obviously this would have been a very different game.

As much as I hate losing to Chelsea, I am very used to it, and my mind is already on Crystal Palace. Let's smash them and forget all about this disaster.

Anyone who thinks us challenging for the top 4 is a given this season is out of touch really. MP has a lot of work to do.
He has been brought here to get the most out of the players we have and with a heavy emphasise on bringing players through from the youth set up. We have no superstars to sell to buy the players everyone feels we should.
Basically there are going to be some tough times ahead financially and the emphasis is on becoming self sufficient whilst we invest in the NDP.
I feel MP is the manager to do that. Let's give this new set up a chance to bed in and their ideas and strategies time to show fruit.
I can see improvement in Kane with is movement, touch and passing. His left foot is getting better. He is far from a top finisher, but he has made gigantic strides under MP.
I strongly believe that after what I have seen recently we are going in the right direction. Obviously there needs to be either improvements or additions to certain areas. The midfield need to score more goals between them and our front players take chances. I feel it will soon click in.
However, I don't think there will be any additions until the summer.

This match looked exactly like an average mid table team playing a top champions league side, so can't be too disappointed as at least we're improving unlike some other mediocrities above and below.

I just started actually browsing through this thread. Christ, some of you seriously need to relax. Chelsea are better than us, and they made us look like shit. We went out and tried something risky and it didn't work. Move on. We weren't going to win the league anyway.

Is this your normal pub you watch at? If so, bummer. Luckily, they could give a toss what we say at our pub. In fact, it's expected.

We all knew we were going to lose. I realistically knew we were going to lose, yet I still watched the game with hope. The first half absolutely broke me. We were dominating up until their first goal.

Nah, San Diego Spurs actually stopped watching there after the Woolwich match. Their service is shitty and they all hate us. Not cause they hate Spurs per se, but cause we're absolutely the loudest supporters group in the city. We would sing songs about how their wait staff is shit, etc. Honestly, I'm pretty sure she saw me walk in and knew from the moment she laid eyes on me that she was going to try to ban me. Fuck 'em, never watching there again (unless it's England in the WC)

Word. Good deal then. Fuck that place. Sounds like they just want to cash in on a football crowd and not have to deal with what comes with that.

On the positive side at least we didn't get absolutely spanked like some of my mates said.
Personally I'm pleased with the way poch is working with the team and yes there will be hiccups but you can see the difference I believe.
I just hope he's given time and we get behind the team.

Just got back from an event with that dull fuck Miliband, what did I miss? Saw that we lost, how did we do?

Threatened for the first 10-15, Kane hit the post. Hazard played a 1-2 and Vlad just stared at him walk by and score (Lloris did poor). 3 mins later Lloris cleared, under no pressure, to their player, who passed it to drogba who held off Jan (i think) and tapped in (Again, poor by Lloris).

After that, we didn't really threaten much and Chelsea just sat back and let us pass the ball sideways in our own half, pressing us when we tried to go further up. Third goal was shit defending by Jan, long ball up to Remy, we played a highline, was 1 v 1 with Jan, cut inside, Jan fell over, tried to pull him down and give away a penalty and failed.

Fazio had a good game, Davies did okay, Lamela is starting to grate, Bentaleb was fine but had silly pot shots, Mason looked tired but was fine, Vlad was meh, Kane good, Lennon alright, Eriksen decent. Mostly "fine but not great" performances. Put it this way, they looked like they expected to lose after 2-0 but put a brave face on it.
