Brendan Rodgers-isms

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

Some kind chap emailed Football365 (I know, I know) these...I'm highlighting my favourite

When we have the football, everybody's a player."
* "It was a perfect away performance, apart from the first 10 minutes."
* "I've always said that you can live without water for many days, but you can't live for a second without hope."
* "My biggest mentor is myself because I've had to study, so that's been my biggest influence."
* "I started coaching for one reason and that was to make a difference for people, not just as footballers but as human beings."
* "You train dogs, I like to educate players." - who is he talking to?
* "When you've got the ball 65-70% of the time, it's a football death for the other team. We're not at that stage yet, but that's what we will get to. It's death by football. You just suck the life out of them."
* "I always say a squad is like a good meal - I'm not a great cook but a good meal takes a wee bit of time, but also to offer a good meal you need good ingredients."
* ""All I'll ever do is all I've ever done in any job, and that's promise to fight for my life for the people of the city."
* "I've always worked along the statistic, that if you can dominate the game with the ball you have a 79% chance of winning a game of football."
* "We play with 11 men, other teams play with 10 men and a goalkeeper."

It must be difficult to come out with something different and meaningful, instead of the usual cliches. However its better to spout a cliche than come out with a load of twaddle!
:avbfacepalm:

So in the Martínez thread, we're reminiscing about the "Rodgers or Martínez?" arguments last spring for our new manager. So I thought I'd dig up some of the old posts. Fun fact, the main cheerleader for Rodgers last year was also this thread's OP. Sorry, Dannyboy :)

So the key threads:

http://www.thefightingcock.co.uk/forum/threads/rodgers-odds-on-for-liverpool.2469/

Which features (sorry!):
If this happens I have a terrible feeling we'll live to regret not making a decisive move for him. Whether or not the two will work out together remains to be seen, as ever but I have felt for a long time Rodgers has the makings of something special.

But, just to be fair, it also features:
Do Newcastle have a lot of expensive dead wood? I see the bar codes as a team on the rise, and I'd back them to finish above Liverpool this season under nearly all circumstances.

Then there's:

http://www.thefightingcock.co.uk/forum/threads/who-do-you-want-as-next-manager-mark-ii.1660/

Which features (sorry!):
AVB is a popular choice on here mate. Not me though. I'll go for Brendan Rodgers boyyeee.

I'd love to see Brendan Rogers given a go... but if things don't go well early on, I don;t think we have the patient breed of fans to allow him to settle into the job!!

i think [Rodgers's popularity] has more to do with him being a long term solution.

he plays our style he has aspirations as a manager and could quite easily go

on to be the next fergus given half the chance.

id be willing to give him the chance over bringing in an overpriced asshole.

being a world class manager doesnt guarantee trophies.

I voted Rodgers, but Im thinking it may be more like a fairytale scenario in my head. Appointing a "homegrown" manager, from a small club, keeping it real, then he turns out to be our Sir Alex!

One thing I am sure of, is that whoever comes in, needs to be tactically astute, and have the nous to get us out of horrible situations. He also needs to upgrade one or two coaches. Im not actually sure who's doing what anymore.

Anyone know what Rodgers is like tactically?

Did anyone hear Brendan Rodgers mention last week that in the Summer break he'd be going to join up with the Spain squad at a training camp in Austria?

He stated that does something similar every year to keep his eye in and learn new coaching techniques/drills, etc.

That's the kind of bloke I want at the helm of our team - one who's constantly striving to improve the service he can provide to his team.
To which T responded:
:vdvcry: he'll never be our manager will he?

Then, for fun, you can read the preëmptive AVB hatefest here:

The man fights with his life for the people of the city. What more do you want!

Nah tbh it had previously occurred to me how I'd rated Rogers before and find him a bit funny now. In my defence I still think he will come good there. But yeah, I'm glad he didn't end up here.
