What a shame. Was out of his depth managing at international level but my respect for him went up after the way the media went after him at a personal level and he handled it with the utmost professionalism.

A bit unlucky as Shearer was injured and Lineker on his last legs, along with a tricky group. Not a fan of his football too, but actually he was a fairly decent pundit. Go to 40:50 in the film and he gives a nice little speech.
Spent my teenage years and early 20s laughing at this guy for being a joke manager
Since then hearing his analysis and commentary and learning about his successes as a manager, I have a great deal of respect for him, one of the games genuine characters
