Player Loan recalls

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

Does anyone know if we can recall any players early from loans now that bentacur is gone for the season and bissouma most likely not coming back either?
Sets up a second question : do any of them deserve a recall…

I think generally the parent club can't recall them if the loan club doesn't agree to them going back. Spurs often have recall clauses in the contracts of our youth players on season-long loans which allow them to be recalled in January but outside of that it would have to be a mutual agreement with the loan club to terminate the loan. I think it's highly unlikely the club would even look at recalling any of the loan players tbh

Also if we did recall them I don't think we would be able to register them anyway...
Pretty sure you're correct on both counts.

I've always understood it as the loan contract can only be terminated via recall if there is a break point agreed in the original deal, and that is usually only active during the TW, I would guess that it can also be terminated outside of the agreed window if both clubs agree to it for whatever reason.

In that instance though we would encounter the second problem you mention, of being unable to register the player. A small loophole for this I think, is that if you have an unallocated squad place, you can still register a new player, but only if they were not registered to another club at the point the TW closed, which of course all of our players out on loan would have been, so the loophole is moot.

It did happen once, when Alex Pritchard was out on loan at Brentford, the Champ season finished the weekend before the PL, so his loan was over, and his registration transferred back to us "naturally" and he was able to make a brief cameo on the final day (Aston Villa???) under Sherwood. But even that might only have been possible due to U21 status, not sure.

On a side note, I wonder how differently his Spurs career could have been if he'd been around the club whilst Sherwood was putting his faith in our Academy players, he did so well at Brentford and I had high hopes down the line when Poch also seemed to be playing the youth and Pritchard returned after another loan, but he never really got going and slid down the leagues...
