Yes I watched him live. I also watched, Modric Bale and Kane. He wasn't fit to carry their kit bag. Overrated in a period we got used to living on rations. B+ player bigged up by the English, dime a dozen player in Seria A over that period
I never moan at the players unless they show weakness (Hundredstone getting put on the grass by Forehead at Stoke) that's why I get annoyed by Vic flapping and Cutey getting owned by various opponents (Delap and the Woolwich cvnt spring to mind)

He could be very good, neat and tidy and not all that, often all at once. He was part of a general incremental improvement under Jol that people remember fondly because how shit we had been before. Good player never a great one. Good news is that we bought him for about 4m and sold him for 17m .... and that gave us the money to buy Berbatov - and he was a real star who was fantastic for and a lovely player to watch.
So a great upgrade in getting Berbatov which overcomes the loss of Carrick.

Fine player when given time on the ball, but was so one paced it was unreal. Being one paced is fine if you have the ability and intelligence of a Pirlo or Busquets, but he was not at that sort of level.
