Supporters Most overrated stadium atmosphere?

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

This has come up in various threads before but I don't think it has its own dedicated one.

What does everyone think is the club with the most overrated stadium atmosphere around?

I personally have to say Anfield, the media big them up but in my own experience as well what I hear from others, Dippers sing their stupid song at the start of the match (You'll never walk alone, yeah right, ask Karius about that), but afterwards are barely one step above Gooners.

Been to all the major London derbies home and away and the worse atmosphere is without doubt Woolwich.

That said at least they don't hurl anti semitic abuse. West ham vs Tottenham at the old boylen ground was always spicy

Is barca considered good? Saw them against Milan in a qf and it was terrible, every 15 minutes or so they would sing their club song then nothing. They didn't react to the game. A few hundred milan fans were better

Anfield and Old Trafford.

Theatre of dreams? Yeh everyone is half asleep there that's for sure.
Agree. Liverpool especially, sing their music theatre song when the teams come out, maybe a half hearted Irish anthem then quiet unless they get a goal.

Everton would be the best atmosphere if it was based on whining at the referee.

Although we would have been challenging Everton on the moaning stakes a few years ago!

Fields of anfield road isnt an irish anthem. Its a piss poor rip off of an irish song.

Fields of athlone?

Not that I give a flying one what it's called or its origins anyway, anfield is a shit atmosphere.

Best aways I have done from memory are sheff weds, West ham and Cardiff, more far the eagerness of home fans wishing us a warm welcome but always a good 'atmosphere' compared to footy tourists fiilming it all on their latest I phone

It's the fields of Athenry. A small town in County Galway. The Anfield Road Liverpool version is cringe as the ryme of the orignal song doesn't scan.

Lo lie
the fields of athenry

THe original song though is an absolute masterpiece combining the themes of love lost, the famine and rebbelion. In many ways all Liverpool.fans have done is cheapen it.

Might of worked if Liverpool played in Peckham Rye

Definitely Anfield. Went there a few times end of 70s, early 80s, was alright but so was every ground back then when 2 major teams met.
Was up there last around 2014, nephew was playing for Bolton in the cup; stumbled in to see his mum filming their scarves held aloft to Walk On... said, put that phone away, you won't hear another peep till the end, which turned out to be prophetic.

Everywhere suffered due to all seating, but the myth of that ground has sustained amongst journos. Having an identifiable 'end' with an easy name to fit into headlines has helped sustain it.
we even get 'Kop want to buy x player'

As with the other major Northwest club, they have a lot of tourist fans, so even during their fallow years, the atmosphere isn't strong, like it seems to be with less global clubs.

I think we were at our best when we were either struggling, or just starting to rise. e.g., second division, first few years up, or the Martin Jol, early Poch years.

City weren't great at the old Maine Road, but I think it was because it got lost in the openness of the ground.
Been to Everton quite a lot last 20 years, definitely the best of the Northwest teams.

Been to everton twice. The home crowd were outsung by villa and swansea.
Although everton gave crowd nothing to cheer about

Anfield,most definitely.
Stamford bridge, last time I was there was awful, contrary to popular belief. But was good in the 80s(when we played there anyway, brought a lot more of them out)
Leeds, expected more when I went, but only really atmospheric from one end and the away section.

I was at Wembley for Ireland v Romania in 2015 (rugby World Cup) and the 89,000 Irish singing that was incredible. (Only 89,000 because there were about 600 Romanians there!)

Anfield....the amount of times my mates and I would go up there, and the best the scousers could muster all game was: Liiiii-verrrrrrr-pooooooool (in a drawn out monotonous scouse accent).

Utter dogshit atmosphere from them.
