6 Son - 3,178 (35)
7 Vicario - 3,060 (34)
8 Bentancur - 2,967 (33)
9 Sarr - 2,927 (33)
10 Udogie - 2,813 (31)
11 Maddison - 2,702 (30) - Played exactly 50% of games
12 Bissouma - 2,515 (28)
13 Spence - 2,419 (27)
14 Bergvall - 2,340 (26)
15 Dragusin - 2,179 (24)
16 Davies - 2,178 (24)
17 Romero - 2,097 (23)
18 Van de Ven - 1,673 (19)
19 Tel - 1, 257 (14)
20 Forster - 1,170 (13)

21 Danso - 1,130 (13)
22 Odobert - 1,007 (11)
23 Werner - 953 (11)
24 Richarlison - 842 (11)
25 Kinsky - 930 (10)
26 Moore - 818 (9)
27 Reguilon - 317 (4)
28 Austin - 270 (3)
29 Lankshear - 146 (2)
30 Scarlett - 60 - (1)
Dorrington, Ajayi, Olusesi also made an appearance

A few interesting points :
- Only 11 players played in more than 50% of all playing time/games, so we are very dependent upon a good squad, not just a good 'first X1'
- Archie Gray played a large number of games, almost always as CB or RB not as a CM
- Son had the 6th highest minutes, despite his age
- We were unable to play a settled defence (although all 3 full backs were in the 13 players with most minutes played), these stats are a real give away :
15 Dragusin - 2,179 (24)
16 Davies - 2,178 (24)
17 Romero - 2,097 (23)
18 Van de Ven - 1,673 (19)
No doubt that's one of the reasons behind the numbers of goals conceded.
- Porro the player with the most minutes played, and by some distance playing 75%
of possible minutes. Kulusevski next highest
- Players in red out of contract this window

A couple of notable omissions (or lack of news) from todays news of releases due to end of contract /loans.

- Ben Davies contract comes to an end at 30 June 2025. No news of an extension having been signed as yet. Probably he'll still depart with our thanks after a decade at Spurs.
- Mathys Tel loan comes to an end at 30 June 2025. Presumably negotiations still in process, but he's very raw and other than one penalty (won by someone else), a goal which cannoned off him from a Johnson cross without him knowing anything about it and an assist, we didn't see much evidence of end product, so not sure we will spend much of our budget on an expensive youngster with it all to prove versus buying a more proven forward.

As always, we have about two and a half months when both questions may be answered - and possibly by end June when both contracts come to an end !

Edit: EPL Squad as of 18 July. Returning loanees Solomon and Gil are included in NHG list along with Kinsky, who is now over 21. Veliz, also now over 21, has been loaned again.

Maximum squad allowed 25. Maximum 17 NHG players allowed.
So we could have 17 NHG + 8 HG, 16 NHG + 9 HG, 15 NHG + 10 HG etc.
Current squad 16 NHG + 7 HG = 23.
So we can sign 2 players, 1 NHG and 1 HG or 0 NHG and 2 HG.

We can, in theory, sign an unlimited amount of U21 players because U21 players do not need to be included in the EPL squad.
NB: Academy players Michael Craig and Josh Keeley are now 21.
In the (unlikely) event they were considered for inclusion in the EPL squad, Craig would be HG and Keeley NHG.

Obviously we are well short of Club Trained players. Austin being the only one. But plenty of decent under 21s to go on the bench for CL. Squad of 22 for Europe is not that different to other clubs .no point in trying to Sign KWP or Dennis Cirkin from Sunderland just to fill the squad up.

New squad as of 31/5/25.

2025-26:
Reguilon and Werner have left.
Kinsky will be added to the NHG list as he is no longer classed as U21.
Total NHG goes from 14 to 13.
Whiteman, Forster and Robson have all left.
Total HG goes from 10 to 7.

New squad total NHG 13 and HG 7 = 20.
So we can sign 4 new NHG players and 1 HG.

and the UEFA/CL squad ?

rather less spare spaces to fill I suspect ?

Kevin Danso is not home grown. Born in Austria , moved to Milton Keynes and joined their academy at 9 yrs old.
Left to join Augsburg at 16yrs old. Had a years loan at Southampton but not HG.

Kevin Danso of Tottenham Hotspur is classified as homegrown in the Premier League but not in UEFA competitions. He qualifies as homegrown in the Premier League because he spent time in the youth academies of MK Dons and Reading before age 21. However, he does not qualify as homegrown for UEFA due to not having spent three years at an English club between the ages of 15 and 21.

KWP might be ok as Davies will be off and we need a back up left back to Udogie. Obviously if cheap.

Under PL rules Danso is HG. Under UEFA rules he is not - reason is that under uefa rules its 3 years from age 15 to age 21, under PL rules there is no lower age limit so even time at an academy aged 12 counts for PL !

Thanks. I’ve learnt something today. Helps us out a bit with the foreign players.

Thanks. I’ve learnt something today. Helps us out a bit with the foreign players.

The issue really is around the squad for european competitions due to UEFA having tighter rules on player eligibility (Danso being a good example) and a need for Club Trained players to have a full 25 man squad (plus unlimited List B players).

The majority of players will only want to join if they are eligible for both PL/domestic cups AND europe, so its the squad under uefa rules we really need to watch - although there may be a few players who would join without being in the european squad for a season (which is what Kinsky did for 6 months) and we can utilise the extra space in PL squad for players we are not expecting to use much (eg Reguilon and in 2nd half of season Werner and Forster). The PL/domestic cups squad maybe something we need to use this window if we need to bring in a player but an existing player doesn't want to move on immediately - but lets see.

The Spurs squad at 8 June 2025

1 Players left since end of 2024/25 season - Forster, Whiteman, Regulon, Werner (all contracts/loans expire in June 2025).
2 Players in - None to date
3 Players on loan last season who might return not included
4. In summary, there are 2 players too many to fit into CL squad (eg Davies, Tel) but might fit into squad for PL and domestic cups.

Age at 1 September 2025 (in brackets)

GK's (3) - Vicario (28), Kinsky (22), Austin (26),
CB's (4) - Romero (27), Van de Ven (24), Dragusin (23) , Danso (25), Davies (32)
FB's (3) - Porro (25), Udogie (22), Spence (25),
CM;s (5) - Bissouma (28), Bentancur (27), Sarr (22), Bergvall (19), Gray (19),
AM's (2) - Maddison (28), Kulusevski (25)
FWDS (7) - Solanke (27), Johnson (24), Son (33), Richarlison (28), Odobert (20),
Moore (18), Scarlett (21), Tel (20)

Analysis By UEFA Classification (Note we can have 17 Overseas trained players plus 4 Association trained (so 21 in total) plus 4 Club trained and unlimited List B players. Note in 2026/27 Gray and Bergvall become List B players which eases situation)

Club trained (1) : Austin
Association Trained (6) Spence, Maddison, Johnson, Solanke, Gray, Davies
Overseas Trained (17) Vicario, Porro, Udogie, Romero, Van de Ven, Dragusin, Danso, Bissouma, Bentancur, Sarr, Kulusevski, Son, Richarlison, Kinsky, Bergvall, Odobert, Tel
List B (u21’s ) (2) Scarlett, Moore

Conclusion - 2 players too many to fit into CL squad

Squad under PL Rules
Home Grown ( 7 )
Austin, Spence, Maddison, Johnson, Solanke, Davies, Danso
Overseas Trained (13) Vicario, Porro, Udogie, Romero, Van de Ven, Dragusin, Bissouma, Bentancur, Sarr, Kulusevski, Son, Richarlison, Kinsky,
List B (u21’s ) (2) Scarlett, Moore, Gray, Bergvall, Odobert, Tel

Conclusion - 20 players in combined HG and overseas categories, so no issues on squad size, as many players can be registered as u21's.

Dragusin probably out till Xmas. Operation in February 2025. Usually a good 9 months if not more till return .
Probably won’t be in either squad.

You don't compete on all fronts by upgrading your weakest players. You do that by upgrading your best.

Nope

You keep your best but upgrade your weakest so they are better than your previous best players (= getting a better first choice starting X1) or if not you get a stronger squad.

Last season I think we played our first choice GK and defence just 5 times in a 60 game season. That's unusually low but makes the point that its a squad game now not a first x1 game - to make that a little clearer Kulusevski played 2nd most minutes in the squad last season but only played 38 games worth of 90 minutes out of 60 games. That tells you that even if we bought a Messi in prime condition, he might well play less than 50% of minutes possible at Spurs, and the quality of his replacement in the squad is therefore of great concern

Except that when you posted that before, I showed him running at the training ground. so should be back well before Christmas. Only issue is how deep in preseason will we see him if he continues to 'mend' at current rate.

Each club is responsible for submitting to UEFA an A list of players (List A) and a B list of players (List B).

31.04 [Edited]
No club may have more than 25 players on List A during the season. As a minimum, eight places are reserved exclusively for "locally trained players" and no club may have more than four "association-trained players" listed in these eight places.

31.06
A "club-trained player" is a player who, between the ages of 15 (or the start of the season during which the player turns 15) and 21 (or the end of the season during which the player turns 21), and irrespective of the player's nationality and age, has been registered with the player's current club for a period, continuous or not, of three entire seasons (i.e. a period starting with the first official match of the relevant domestic championship and ending with the last official match of that relevant domestic championship) or of 36 months. In the context of this paragraph, the season immediately preceding a player’s 15th birthday may be counted if the player's birthday is after the last match of the relevant domestic championship but before or on 30 June (winter championships) or 31 December (summer championships), and the season immediately following the player's 21st birthday may be counted if the player's birthday is on or after 1 July (winter championships) or 1 January (summer championships) but before the first match of the relevant domestic championship.

An "association-trained player" is a player who, between the ages of 15 (or the start of the season during which the player turns 15) and 21 (or the end of the season during which the player turns 21) has been registered with a club or with other clubs affiliated to the same association as that of the player's current club for a period, continuous or not, of three entire seasons (i.e. a period starting with the first official match of the relevant domestic championship and ending with the last official match of that relevant domestic championship) or of 36 months.
