Sorry in advance, because this is a random thread. Just thinking about things that aren't the same topics repeated (Is ange going, is frank coming, is tel signing etc). It is just a thing that has been in my head since Jose became manager years ago and did his duvet speech...

Does anyone think that the 'presentation' of a manager affects the opinion of them? Personally I couldn't really see Jose as the same guy he was when he was dressed like a live-action Barney the dinosaur

Similar, with Nuno, they seemed to kit him up like a warehouse smurf. Conte wore it that season of course but I feel like he ditched it

I'm looking now and can't see that, pre-nike, we ever put Poch in a stupid bright tracksuit.

I don't know if this is just me, but I have a better subconscious impression of the manager/head coach when he is well dressed. e.g.

No reason for this that I think makes sense, other than maybe the idea that maybe it looks like they are more 'respected' or serious in a suit.

Excuse the bad editing here (skin tone and that), but I feel like Nuno was done dirty when you consider how 'Ted Lasso' Ange would look in that. Makes me wonder if presenting him that way made the fans not take him seriously from the get go.

On that basis, does anyone know what the new kit version of this would be? Could be a silly but interesting factor if we change manager and, for example, have them stood in a tracksuit the colour of the keeper kit, like a giant dildo

This is not as far out as you may fear. Optics matter, they are about building congruence. The track suit should be how the players see the manager on the training ground. Because he is ( if he's actually any fucking good) supposed to be able to walk you through positional tweaks and tactical stuff on the training pitch( it's why obesity should be frowned on). They understand the powder the out fit has in medicine, and it serves a real function, in certain scenarios it creates distance reassures builds trust there is a real psychological edge here that clubs should take very seriously indeed.

Depends on the personality of the manager. Clough looked like a tramp, it didn’t seem to matter much. Nuno on the other hand couldn’t really pull that off.

A suit or smart casual is probably the best look for match days and anything official. Training, pretty much whatever is comfortable. I think Poch was pretty much ok as a rule.

Poch did set a bit of a level with his style. Worst thing Tim did was put on that Gilet, as it is the kind of a weird thing to wear outside of specific circumstances.

Can't think of a good example of who, but I'm sure in the 90s and early 00s (might have been Hoddle), you'd get some managers who'd practically have full kit on (boots, socks, shorts, training top). Always thought they looked a tosser if they weren't some kind of player manager (which of course he was at Chelsea) and wore kit like they were going to come on the pitch.

Looking at this type of thing, with Harry, Jordan, and Clive Allen thinking it looks like a match day pitch and they're decked out like that. Might not have been, but feel like it used to be a common sight. Like Clive looks like he has shin pads on and all.

The whole suit thing is old-school IMO. Barely anyone wears a suit outside of car salesman and weddings these days. I don't particularly care what they wear, as long as they don't dress like Hector Bellerin on a night out.
