Supporters Spurs in the USA

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

Only rule; nothing political here Americans get it. Thought we could talk about being a fan in the US and what that means. Early mornings, 100000 streaming service subscriptions to watch games in all comps, and of course Rebecca Lowe

It's great. The five hour time difference lets you watch games early in the day, which is nice. Streaming services mean I can watch the weekday games in Europe as well, or if I want to go back during the week and rewatch a Spurs game or another league game I missed it's there. Not sure how many Spurs fans there are compared to other teams. Before I got interested in football when I would hear anyone over here talking about liking a team it was Manchester United. That was when Man U was very successful. I started watching games when I retired when I stumbled on the World Cup games in Russia. Comically, I then read an article about what Premier League team's fan bases were like and who new fans could follow. Fulham got a nice writeup, so I started there and naturally they got relegated. I did get to enjoy a year of seeing Ryan Sessegnon when he was really good, though. Liked Brighton, but I was afraid they would be relegated to. So I started watching Spurs because I figured they were too big to have to worry about relegation, I liked the manager (Ponchettino at the time), and I remembered Harry Kane from the WC. It's certainly interesting to be a Spurs fan. Never a dull moment.

No, it’s worked out really well.
I’m 12 years in, I’ve been to rehab 3 times.
No correlation, I’m sure…

Wasn’t sure where to put this, then found this poor orphaned thread with one post…

P.s. Been to Flannery’s, it’s walking distance from my home

I'm always amused when someone answers a post ..... 2 years after the original poster was last seen on TFC !

Happy Christmas to you though !

I was in NYC (from UK) when we played city in the CL. I think I watched it here with although might have been somewhere else as I remember some confusion and loads of spurs fans on the street trying to find a new pub as original had a leak or something. Anyway had a great time and everyone went mental! I had my dog with me who I was bringing back to the UK from Brazil.

That def sounds like Flannery's, fans were spilling out to other nearby bars because it was too jam packed

I think the Spurs experience is fairly universal, no matter where you are. Maybe Korea is different.

Biggest difference between the UK and the US is football support in general - in the UK it's obviously very blue collar, especially the hardcores. In the US, football is very much supported predominately by the white collar college educated upper middle class.

I usually don't watch at pubs for this reason, usually not a crowd I enjoy drinking with.

But - one of the perks of supporting an English club in the US is having an excuse to get hammered at 6 am on a Saturday.

Thanks for posting.
A proper journalist talking to real people and accurate facts.
Unlike that lefty, Grauniad tit with his "in my opinion" shit.

Oh, it's even worse than that. I started watching football when I retired after watching the 2018 World Cup. Come fall, I wanted to follow a Premier League team and didn't know who any of them were. So, I looked online to see who an American should follow (bad move). I got an article about the fan bases that said something to the effect of "Fulham's fans are well mannered and, unlike other teams, get along well with others. Well, of course they did, the team was so bad nobody would dislike them or consider them a rival. That didn't dawn on me until we were coming down the stretch and I had to look up this term I kept hearing. It was "relegation". So, without a team I thought about it. I didn't like Manchester United because I knew most Americans knew nothing about soccer but enjoyed saying they were Man United fans because of the team's history. Didn't like Woolwich so struck them off. Most of the rest I didn't know anything about. I liked Brighton for some reason, but they were on shaky grounds and I didn't want to go through another relegation. Then it all came together. I liked Ponchettino (who naturally got fired), I liked Harry Kane and Son (who wouldn't), and I figured if they had a big, new stadium and great training grounds they had to be on the way up. Did I mention I didn't know at this point anything about the owner or management? So, Spurs it was and Spurs it will stay regardless of the weirdness that often follows the team. I'm happy with my choice.
