Squad List for 2012/13

This is a bit premature, but the Damião news on top of the Hazard news makes me want to start considering it.

Our 25-player Squad List for next season starts from:

Homegrown (15 total):

2013 contracts: Button, Jenas, Naughton
2014 contracts: Lennon, Defoe
2015 contracts: Bale, Dawson, Huddlestone, Parker, Rose
2016 contracts: Livermore, Walker
Unknown: Alnwick, Bentley, Obika

Non-homegrown (15 total):

2013 contracts: Assou-Ekotto, Friede, Gallas, Kranjčar, dos Santos
2014 contracts: Bassong, Ćorluka, Kaboul, van der Vaart
2015 contracts: Falqué, Pienaar
2016 contracts: Modrić
Unknown: Khumalo, Jansson, Dawkins

On frees: King (hgrown), Gomes, Cudicini, Nelsen, Saha,

We need at least 8 homegrown players.

Bale, Dawson, Parker, Walker, and Livermore are nailed on. Lennon, Defoe probably, too. Then… King or Rose…

I bring this up since Hazard would take (most likely) Lennon's squad place, but we'd get rid of a foreign player to put him on our squad list (dos Santos looks likely, to me). If Lennon gets sent to the bench, would that be ok? If he wanted to move, he'd rid us of a homegrown space.

Similarly, would Defoe be ok with the arrival of Damião? Again, he might become superfluous, but he provides us with a homegrown player.

This is all early, of course, and speculative. And, of course, we could name a u21 to our Squad List to make the magic 8. But this is an added twist to the issue of money.

Pretty sure Gomes is on a 4+2 style contract, would be surprised if the 2 years are not added onto it, no way Levy would let him leave on a free.

Sure, but as things stand... I also expect we will re sign Ledley, especially considering his relative durability this year.

I thought we would have more players turning 21, but it looks like that is not the case.

FW's: Adebayor, Saha, dos Santos, Defoe, Dawkins

U21's: Rose, Walker

Next year, Adebayor is obviously gone, and then we can realistically replace anyone from Bentley, Dawkins, Khumalo, and maybe even dos Santos (I rate him, nobody else does).

So that's 4 (maybe 5) spots saved, which means Rose and Walker are in, and then Hazard and/or Damiao/Llorente for the remaining 2. That also leaves a possible place for Bassong/Corluka as well when they return from loan, but i'd expect them to be sold anyway.

EDIT: Just considered the HG rules, and I make it 9 in total that we'd have..

Conversely, I'd say that's almost a certainty he's off now, and Levy is trying to compensate by his lack of form/appearances/VALUE by lumping on another 2 years of a contract that he's NEVER gonna see out... but that SOMEONE will still have to pay for to buy out!
