I was watching the MOTD Story of the Season VHS for 92/93 the other day. To think, in those days, Norwich and Aston Villa were major players in the title race and City had Niall Quinn leading the line instead of Haaland.

Niall Quinn played in two world cups. He wasn’t completely useless. If you look at that picture from 1992 bar Strachan and Beardsley none of them got near a World Cup.

One thing I've wondered about Beardsley is why we didn't sign him in the summer of 91 instead of Everton. He would have cost less than half of what we paid for Gordon Durie and Gary Lineker rated Beardsley very highly from their time together with the England team. It might even have encouraged him to stay with us for a bit longer instead of going to Japan and we would have had a lethal strike partnership.

He was one of many souness shipped out to quickly. He was great for Newcastle when they resigned him too, he scored more in less games for Newcastle( 2nd spell) than his time at Liverpool .
