Tottenham...And Baseball?

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

We Spurs fans are rightly proud of our clubs history, but how many spurs fans know that many clubs formed around the same time as us were playing many sports. Were were formed by members of the Hotspur Cricket club, but how many know we were English Baseball Champions in 1906 and 1908!!
The American Spurs fans may find this interesting. Baseball i believe is America's national game, it's origins come from England and adopted by by our brothers over the other side of the pond.

Here's a team sheet from 1908

And a picture of the English baseball champions of 1908, just love the shirts!

Spurs have something in common with the Chicago Cubs, who also haven't been champions in baseball since 1908. :baletroll:

As a Cubs fan that was the first thing I thought when I saw 1908. :avbshock:

In baseball can Benny still sport his afro?

Google Oscar Gamble of the Cleveland Indians and New York Yankees. There are many others.

Just FYI but the Cincinnati Reds and the Atlanta Braves were among the first professional American baseball clubs in 1869. Club teams existed at least 25-30 years prior to this with a famous match occurring between the Knickerbockers and the New York Nine in 1849.

Sammy, i got the picture from Project cobb, a british baseball site.

It would be interesting to find out how long we ran a baseball team? And I'm more than sure the club would have many more photo's of our baseball team.

Derby County were 3 times British baseball champions, and called their old stadium "The Baseball Ground" older spurs fans like me will remember visiting it.

I know some Americans who get nasty and start insulting Britain if you dare tell them that their no.1 sport was invented in England. Don't ask me why....

Pretty sure we invented baseball. Just FYI America also invented the internet, Coca-Cola, the smiley face, hot dogs, cartoons, rock music, gasoline, nuclear bombs, patriotism, government, the English language, Jesus, the pyramids (ask the Masons), evolution, the King James Bible New International Version, spaceships, dinosaurs, fire and the wheel. Fuck you for suggesting otherwise.

Going off at a tangent there, isn't it right that a lot of sides have multiple sports, I think Barca and Real Madrid have Basketball teams and wasn't AC Milan originally a cricket club or something??

I live in a country where RM and Barça are better known for their basketball than their football. Flamengo started as a rowing club (hence the term "Regatas" in the official name, "Clube de Regatas do Flamengo"). For one of the Lithuanian football clubs (which went defunct this year), FBK Kaunas, the "B" stood for "Baseball", and you could even see baseball represented in the crest on the shirts:

Now the FBK translates to, roughly, "Football community's club", as the team was restructured by fans.
