What position for Europa cup

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

Why not play the CL and EL on alternate weeks? It would remove the need for Thurs/Sun fixtures and TV would have European football every week. It would also enhance the profile of the EL without treading on the CL's toes.
If the eventual aim is to simply remove the need for sunday fixtures, and therefore sunday TV revenues, that's obviously going to have some strong opposition.

I can only think the main reason is branding. "This is a European week."

Even though the EL manages one more tie, it's still always played in sync with the cl, which splits up the group of 16 to account for the extra tie.

Maybe their marketing experts said that people would get weary of Europe "every" week and get confused about CL vs. EL, which would hurt the former's license to print money.

I think the EL would benefit from having a different format than the CL. Make it knock-out fixtures from the start, without seeding. It will be more charming and raise the chance of small teams going on epic runs. Of course, this kind of thinking probably goes against what every marketing stooge, UEFA suit and other horrible people want.

Was there for the 5-1 in Rotterdam obviously.

As a foetus doesn't count.

And TED? What the fvck mate?

Sorry for swearing so much in this thread.
I don't agree with most 99% of what I8AVB says but he's a paying supporter that gives a fuck. I wanted AVB to get more time.
Unpaying fans give a f*ck, I just don't like these wands that sit in their bedrooms compiling stats that call out other fans for being shit. Hey ho.
Have a good summer.

Back to how it originally was? The CL should do same. Fukc the revenue income.

If they didn't put 3rd placed Champions League teams in it it wouldn't be so easy to label it as a second-rate competition and it would be able to develop a personality of it's own.

Apart from the Champions League teams being thrown in I like it though. It produces some really good fixtures in the latter stages, and really is not as easy to win as some people say. I hope we put some real effort in to it next season, it's bollocks when we treat it like we've unexpectedly ended up in the Johnstone's Paint Trophy.

Yeah, and like the Cup Winners Cup, which was a lot of fun aswell. Seeding is difficult to get around though..but just going back to knock-out rounds would help. It's just too many games now in my opinion.
IMO the whole format is wrong. It should go back to how it was. Knock out. Only the champions of each league can enter. Bring back the CWC and the EC. Why should a second/third or fourth place team reap the finical benefits and exposure of the competition. We all know its revenue and it will develop into a super league of some format. Leaving the rest firmly behind.

I understand your issues, but personally I have no problem with the CL as it is now. But the Europa League is just too big and awkward and needs to stand out on its own. At the moment it's just CL-light where the groups go to "K" and "L".

Football has run away with itself. Over paid players, agents and managers. Sky TV has too much power. CL and EL reflect this wealth. As a commodity its value is high, as a quality product its value is pi55 poor. I don't want to promote the dark days of minimum wage but its obscene at present and it needs to change before it self districts. I do not like it at all. I would have to work a life time to earn the same as a top player earns in one week.

Am I right in saying that if Hull WIN the FA Cup they enter a later stage than us in the EL next year, but if Woolwich win it we we enter at a later stage? Meaning an Woolwich win would do us a favour (i.e 2 fewer games)?

Although I'd rather still Hull won the cup even if this is the case.
