Respectfully disagree.I mean we only played Chelsea last week where he flat out refused to take on 19 year old Alfie Gilchrist.
There's so much revisionism around Son every week, his position changes depending on how bad he's done in the previous match, contrary to the popular opinion this week he isn't finished as a striker at all, that's where he's the most effective these days and that's where he can impact the game. I think the landscape totally changes when we have 2 capable and dangerous wingers either side of him as it will open more space for him.
That said I think he can still play as a winger in some matches, probably when we have an advantage in matches but his future is definitely as a ST.
He was rejuvenated yesterday when he moved to LW. Had his oppo full back on toast - in a way neither Kulusevski or Johnson could manage. For the previous 3/4 of the game, he was a passenger at #9 - knocked off the ball easily, not great in build up play.
His ineffectiveness at #9 also costs the team in other ways. Our inability to make the ball ‘stick’ up front means that we are doing a whole lot more defensive work that we should be. We concede the same goal every game it seems - quick break and in behind the full back, having lost the ball easily up front.
We need our #9 to hold the ball up, bring others into play, defend from the front and…..score lots of different goals (inc headers).
Son has been (& continues to be) a talisman for this club. He is still devastating running onto the ball….whether as a winger of off the striker. We need a striker to bring the best out of Sonny - in the way that Kane did
