Tottenham bid goodbye to the Wembley Stadium in style as they came from behind and beat the Leicester City in an exciting final day Premier League match, with a 5-4 score line.

Spurs will return to their renovated White Hart Lane Stadium starting next season. Braces from both Eric Lamela and Harry Kane, and an own goal from Christian Fuchs helped them edge past Leicester City and seal third place on the table. A lot of money exchanged hands in the betting market too, as people thronged betting sites to back their favourite team and players.

Harry Kane misses Golden Boot by a brace

The two goals scored by Harry Kane took his Premier league goals tally to 30 this Premier League season, and was an encouraging performance from him ahead of the upcoming FIFA World Cup 2018. However, he fell short by 2 goals and couldn’t bag a third successive Golden Boot.

Leicester City also played very well and led 3-1 at one point, with 2 goals scored by Jamie Vardy and one each from Kelechi Iheanacho and Riyad Mahrez. Everyone was focused on Kane and was hoping for him to catch up with Mohamed Salah, the leading goal scorer of the tournament. However, it was Vardy, his English teammate who got onto the scoring board first.

The goal scorers

It took Harry Kane only 3 minutes after the Jamie Vardy goal to make his mark in the game. On the whole, it was his 40th goal in the entire season, the maximum by a Spurs player ever since Clive Allen scored a whopping 49 during the mid-80s!

Leicester City regained the lead in the 16th minute of the game with Mahrez joining the party. It was a great job overall by Spurs despite the fact that they had already booked a top 4 spot on the table. Hugo Lloris’ amazing stop kept the deficit to only one at that point as the France international made an impressive one-handed save to prevent Demarai Gray’s effort. However, he couldn’t do much about the stunning Iheanacho strike that put Leicester City ahead in the game by 2 goals.

Everyone thought that Spurs were dead and buried, however an amazing 3-goal blast within 11 minutes completely turned the game around, and in their favour. Just 2 minutes after the Iheanacho goal, Lamela got his first in the Premier League since August 2016. The scores were tied at the 53rd minute after Lamela’s shot deflected from Fuchs and resulted in an own goal. The comeback was finally complete after around 7 minutes when Lamela scored one more goal exactly as his first one, from close range.

Leicester City continued their attacking game and Lloris’ made another fine save denying Iheanacho, however, Vardy got his team back at level in the 73rd minute of the game. But it was Harry Kane who had the last laugh and scored his 30th in the league!
